    PGA Events

Did anyone realize this had happened at the PGA? If it was just me "in the dark", I apologize for bringing it up again

The PGA Tour is an odd business in that the travelling carnival works only because the workers aren't paid. Up to 2,000 local "volunteers' run the show at each Tour stop. In return for the long days, heckling from the yobs in the galleries, dressing downs by the power-crazed squad leaders (also volunteers, but you've met the type) and being ignored by the superstar golfers, they get to take home a hat and a shirt and tell friends how they spent a week's vacation.
Two volunteer marshalls were working the fourth hole at Whistling Straits during the PGA Championship this August. They were fore caddies, assigned to keep an eye out for errant tee shots.

Well, they sort of lost sight of K.J. Choi's tee shot at their hole during the second round. They looked for it, and Choi and his caddy looked for it. When the allotted five minutes was up, Choi went back and re-teed and suffered the two-stroke lost ball penalty.

Problem was, Adam Scott playing behind Choi found the ball. It was in a good lie in the fairway bunker well past where the marshalls had been looking.

Ouch. Choi finished two strokes out of the playoff won by Vijay Singh.

The blunder cost Choi a bundle and a chance at a major. But the Tour saves a bigger bundle by being a multi-billion dollar business with unpaid help.

Interesting way to run a business.....

Actually, you have to pay to be a volunteer. It's usually around $50.00 US for a shirt and a hat. We pick up an extra shirt because after 4 days, 1 isn't enough. So it's about $75US when we are done. That's at the Buick Classic anyways. Not sure of other places.
It could be that the purpose of your life is only to serve as a warning to others.

Never heard that story, that sucks for Choi! You would have thought though that Choi or his caddy would have known about where it was, being that way off is weird, but still bad luck for Choi!!!
