Will Optishot register punch shots etc?

Will Optishot pick up lower trajectory shots on driving range/course if I wanted to practice hitting punch 7/5 irons etc?

I'm wondering if this is an acceptable tool to hit shots like this considering it doesn't pick up spin rate or ball flight.

What kinds of shots are people able to practice using this?

You do have the option of picking the shot type, lower , higher etc and power boost option. The launch angles are probably set at these values so no matter what shot you hit, that result will show. So in truth no you can't control the shot type with your technique, only with the computer. If you are looking to practice these shots then you need something that will determine the launch angle. optishot as of yet have no launch angle measurement therefore you need to look at another system such as the p3pro, Golftek Pro7 etc.

Yep - that's the scoop on this one. Launch angle is pretty much required to be able to play punch shots and have them come up reasonably in the software. To really get them to come up accurately, you'd need to go one step further and have a system that recognizes spin (so a camera-based system) as you could achieve the same (low) launch angle by either catching the ball thin or by punching it, and both will have different spin rates. Although I'm not sure it makes a big difference for punch shots vs. thin shots as both tend to have a fair bit of spin.
