Score Golf Top 100 Courses - 2010 Edition
Although not technically official until tomorrow (I think) I stumbled across Score Golf's 2010 version of the top 100 courses in Canada (Magazine edition comes out Aug 30th). The only Ottawa area course I saw was Eagle Creek at 83, assuming it is the same Eagle Creek.
On a surprising note, my favorite course, Tarandowah Golfers Club, which is located just outside London ON made the list at 95, which is great considering you can play the course for $40.00. www.puregolf.net.
Full leaked list is here, again nothing official until tomorrow,

Not one Ottawa area course!
I got a fever. And the only prescription is more golf equipment.

Eagle Creek is on there. That said, it's pretty brutal that the Ottawa region only has one course on the list. Surely the Hunt is better than 30-50 of those courses.

Played Eagle Creek today, if thats #83 then damn! What a beautiful course, best I've played so far and I only got to play 9 holes. Fairways were really nice, greens had lots of spike marks but still ran nicely. Can't wait to play 18 tomorrow.

Interesting list. Certainly a lot up for debate. Who's the guy doing the comments? I can't believe anyone would pick Dunderave over Crowbush in P.E.I. Also, his comments about Black Bear and Eagle Creek are pretty funny considering he is only a google search away from answering his own questions. I like lists like this as they are always great fodder for conversation, but I'm not sure someone who hasn't played or at least heard of every course is best suited to critique.

Banff Springs is a joke! It's like playing the Meadows, with big mountains around it... Seriously, it is a very easy course, and if it weren't for a few elevation changes, it would actually be boring!

correction...
You have a couple mixed up regarding the Scoregolf Top 100.
Northern Bear is in Edmonton AB and Nicklaus North is in Whistler BC.
And Bear Mountain is in Victoria BC...and just built a second 18.
I've played them all.

I would take the insight to that list with a grain of salt. I don't know how much of an insight the person can provide when he doesn't even know where the courses are located. Predator Ridge is located near Kelowna, BC not AB.

Banff Springs is overrated and overpriced. It is a very flat course except for a couple of holes and when I played there the fairways needed to be mowed shorter. The mountains are spectacular... but when I was there the smoke from forest fires was so thick, the mountains were obscured.

In repsonse to quinner, the list is compiled by many golf writers across the country. The link that was posted was 1 individuals comments on the list, hence why he didn't necessarily know where all the courses where. He didn't necessarily have anything to do with this list

I knew that was the case in regards to the score list I was really addressing the comments in that particular blog or whatever it is.
I played two courses this past week while I was in BC: Fairmont Whistler GC and The Harvest. To be honest, other than the views I didn't think the courses themselves were that spectacular. I personally think that Hunt Club is a better test than both of those especially for the price.

Interested to know how many of these courses OGer's have played. I'm sure I haven't played the most on this board. But I count 5 for me. One I'm surprised at not being on this list is LionHead (Legends 18) in Toronto....it was beautiful and tough. Maybe the toughest course I have ever played.
Le Maitre (#35)
Osprey Valley (#39)
Le Geant (#44)
Le Diable (#55)
Eagle Creek (#83)
Bartended the skins game at the National (Does this count)Last edited by Shushu; 09-08-2010 at 02:30 PM. Reason: changed my count...and added the course names

I played Le Maitre, Diable and Geant - all awesome courses in every aspect.
Eagle Creek was a really nice course but was a complete log jam when I played it....no excuse for that nonsense IMO when green fees are +$100.00. I'll never go back.

I have played 4 of them,
Crowbush (12) - Very nice, played it a couple years ago from the middle tees, not to difficult, I imagine much harder from back tees
St.Thomas (64) - Never been a huge fan, although it is pretty well respected in southern ontario. Hosted Canadian Senior Champs last week. Rumour is it could be in financial trouble, hello club link.
Eagle Creek (83) - Love it, and always seem to play well there, so that helps.
Tarandowha (95) - Favorite course right now. Just outside of London ON. Inland links, very tough, plays long, even longer when wind is up.

I've played....
4. Highland Links
8. Links at Crowbush Cove
11. Banff Springs
18. Taboo
35. Dundarave
47. Fox Harb'r
50. Deerhurst
55. Bell Bay
65. Predator Ridge
72. Black Bear Ridge
74. Eagle Creek
100. Brudenell
Bell Bay and Highland Links are probably my 2 favorites to play everyday. Unfortunately the Links is usually in poor condition until later in the season. Fox Harb'r is cool (I suppose any course with its own runway for private jets would be cool.) and Black Bear and Dundarave are BEASTS from the tips. I was a member at Crowbush for a couple of seasons so I rarely play it when I visit PEI.
Guess I need a trip to the Muskokas this fall to up my list!

I have played:
Le Geant
Le Diable
Le Maitre
Overall these courses were spectacular, there only a 2 hour drive from Ottawa and you can make kind of a golf weekend out of it. Le Geant has amazing views especially on the 18th standing on the green and blue tee box. Le Diable would be a million time nicer if the bunkers were filled with white sand, but the Marshall said it was an "Arizona style golfing" that is why there is no white sand. Le Maitre was just outstanding being a clublink course in 11/10 condition.
