Driver Length on Tour?
I grabbed this months Golf Digest and was very surprised when I read the interview at the back with Hank Haney. There was a question about Tiger's driving accuracy and Hank mentioned that in 2002 Tiger used a 43" driver, and just recently switched to a 44" driver. (I believe this is the date, I left the mag up there)
Is this common in the tour? If thats the case, what the heck are we all doing with 45-46" drivers. Its no wonder my bag is so hard to get into a travel bag, and under rain covers.

Yes, very common on tour to play 44" or 44.5" drivers.
Very few of the pros play long drivers. And if a tour pro has trouble controlling a long driver it makes you wonder why amateurs are playing them that long. Not fat anymore. Need to get better at golf now!

*pulls out his measuring tape* Where do you measure from, is it just the length of the shaft from the butt to where it connects with the driver head?

Nope.
The "standard" way to measure is to put the driver on the ground in the address position and measure along the shaft from the butt end of the club to where the ruler hits the ground. Not fat anymore. Need to get better at golf now!

If you're all planning on cutting down the sticks, don't forget swingweighting the heads back up...depending on how much you chop off the club WILL feel different!

Before trimming the shaft, why not simply grip down on the shaft so that an inch (or whatever amount your are thinking of trimming) sticks out. I have been gripping down one inch for years. It works great. Then, if you like the results, trim away.

i've tried that, but the club still feels too heavy and long. i wanted to trim it down even further, to 43". but the golfpro there advised me not to do it.
i found this thread about 43" drivers, maybe i'll shave another inch to try it out next year.

The only reason to trim your driver is to improve accuracy. I don't seem to recall you having control issues with it...
