The customer wanted to do that with their interior designer so I didn't get to see what they did.

Dawg
I have explained my screen setup somewhere but here it is again.....
HQ raw
sew sleeves in top and sides.
on the sew lines sew velcro strip top and sides
place eye hooks down side wall directly into studs - about 10 each side.
place stainless cable in top sleeve and attach to top eye hook- tension with turnbuckle that fits in and top sleeve covers turnbuckle
place metal curtain rod in side sleeves.
put holes in each side of sleeves and put zip ties around rod so they pull the rod. holes have to be on side so the rod is pulled not the screen.
zig zag length of bungee cord from top of wall to bottom through eyes and cable ties.
lastly put hole at top and bottom of side sleeves and attach to eyelets on floor and roof and pull tight enough to take any crease out of the screen on the curtain rod.
the bungee tightness can be adjusted to adjust bounceback but you will find no creases in screen caused by pulling at particular points on the screen, the curtain rod is constant tension at all points on the side of screen.
I do not need to attach bottom in any way but you may.
Any side protection ,be it net or curtain, can be attached by sewing the other side of the line of velcro ( or weave it in and out for net) and velcro it to the screen
Cheers

Ty. Hopefully I can make sense of that and not screw it up. If my area for screen before frame is 16 x 10 what size screen would you recommend? I was thinking 15 x 10 screen "framed" with black curtain to be like 14 x 8 projected screen. (Whatever the proper size is for 16:9 ratio).
Thoughts
Can't thank you guys enough for this help. I will be posting pics soon of the dig out in basement.

What I am saying is with this method you do not need a frame. Eye hooks go in wall stud. Make sure they are long and strong enough.
The screen sewn should be about 1 ft narrower than room width.
Side curtains Velcro on so they are at screen width. I have 3 pass blackout curtain.

Foam behind screen
Has anyone placed an egg crate foam pad or equivalent between an impact screen and wall?
And, similarly, has anyone used foam to line the walls instead of netting??

I ended up using a 12x9 painters cloth with my Almost Golf balls and it works great. I get a great picture with my projector and there is no kickback. It only cost $20 bucks.

I have a spare memory foam Queen mattress topper at 3 inches. Still trying to find time to hang (it is heavy) behind HQ screen to try and deaden noise to a whisper.

Hi Cory,
You've probably already answered this question but what is the difference between the HQ raw and the HQ custom?
-
03-26-2013 10:48 PM #339
Raw is unfinished, custom he finishes for you.

Two winters down and I started to break through the first layer of my Protee screen. Luckily it has two layers so I turn it around and the other side is in great shape.
I tried putting a net in front of the screen but didn't like that. Plus, the net is black and the black color rubbed off the net onto the ball so badly that the ball was dark gray by the end of a round. Ugh.
Debating now whether to just plan on replacing the screen every 3-4 years ($$ ugh) or figuring out some other way to extend the life without using a net. Big issue is that my kids use the setup to watch movies and play xbox all the time. So the puckering and scuff marks eventually really degrade the picture. Usable and not a huge deal, but a bit annoying for some movies or sporting events.
I might just wait until this screen breaks through and then replace it. But use half of the current screen (or fold it over) as a curtain to drape down the middle of the new screen where the vast majority of shots hit. Would create two layers for the golfing, so not ideal, but great protection. Then just need to a figure out way to roll that out of the way without it looking bad while watching a movie
I assume Almostgolf balls do less damage to screen? Saw comments that they warp. How many hits until they start to get out of shape - is it few (like 20-30) or is it a lot (like 100s of hits later)

I don't think those practice balls are good for your game.
Considering the speed and impact screens do an amazing job.
Just have to accept the wear factor.
Memory foam behind saves damage and extends life.

CPA what practice balls are you referring to that are not good for your game?

Almostgolf balls don't do any damage. I think most of the damages to the screen comes from wedges. They chew up a ball then you use it, slowly scratching the screen.
I only used almost golf balls with wedges. So my screen is still good. I hate using these balls but I don't have a choice. I agree with CPA, they can hurt your game.

Any. Just makes an impact change. Same as hitting off mats too long and no turf. Size of divot on first round is scary.

Well I think I depends on the player. Our club has limited flight balls on the range and we do just fine. The Almost balls are definitely lighter and there is some adjustments needed when you go to a real ball. Let's remember, no of us are going to the PGA tour anytime soon, so I'd say the Practice balls are better than nothing.

I'll be the manager and hang with the posse. Seems easier than carrying that big@ss bag up and down the hills at Augusta.

Hey Libbing...haven't seen you post in a while. True sign that we are getting back to the winter months
I've been using the AlmostGolf balls and have been quite happy with them thus far...I played in a tournament at Yarrow on Oct 12th and my ball striking was very good...personally, I don't notice any drawback in using them versus real balls. If you find yourself in my neck of the woods please stop by for a round and give them a try. I use them for all shots and then a regular ball for putting. I had to do it for noise reasons but it will def preserve the screen. For those using the memory foam mattress right behind the screen...does it make sense that the buffering real balls into the foam would increase the longevity of the screen? If so, that is something you could do Libbing...hang the memory foam right behind the screen to preserve the life...plus deaden the sound as a bonus.

Yeah, about that time of year. Though i did sneak out for a round outside yesterday! I did buy some Almostgolf balls to try out. hated them for putting, so will stick to real balls for that. Didn't mind them for the full swing so I'll keep trying them for a while.
I've got a net that I might hang behind the screen to see if that helps (didn't work out in front of the screen, but maybe it will behind it; though I dread taking that screen down again!

Libbing try these limited flight balls http://www.amazon.com/World-Gifts-Ga.../dp/B004E16VUY
Much better, heavier feel than the Almost balls.

Likely easiest to go to par2pro and order on his online buying site or giving him a call and completing your order.

It is the HQ Impact Screen:

You can buy the install kit from me, or you can make it yourself with slotted angle iron, screws and bungees. I also have the trim option which is not on the website, but looks like this:
