Forum Member on PGATour.com
Some of you may be familiar with the blog I run, chapeaunoirgolf.com, which focuses solely on golf apparel.
A big thank you goes out to everyone from ottawagolf.com who has popped over to my site since its inception ten months ago, and to Dan whose work here gave me inspiration to go out there and do my own thing.
I'm happy to report that starting in August, I will be writing a weekly column for PGATour.com. While this is purely a sideline gig for me, it's a labour of love of a sort, so there's no quitting the day job just yet - though the yet to launch PGATour.com column has already landed me another column in the quarterly glossy magazine for ClubLink members called ClubLink Life.
Good times all around, and thanks again to ottawagolf.com for the support!www.chapeaunoirgolf.com

Poulter wasn't too thrilled you put Camilo number 1. Poulter does deserve top spot. What about Adam Scott, dude is great in that Burberry I think it is. Monday morning fashionback. = )

Congratulation Mike. I envy you. Great job and I will read on weekly.
Just curious, how did an Ottawa recreational golfer and forum member get a weekly spot on a big site like the pgatour.com? That’s some accomplishment.Strive for perfection, but never expect it!

It was a toss up between Camilo and Poulter to be honest. Putting Camilo made Poulter take notice - did I do that because I thought I'd get a reaction? Not really, but it certainly helped!
The Adam Scott / Burberry relationship ended at the end of 2009 when Burberry decided not to keep on with a golf line. For most of 2010 Adam wore Polo RLX, until the new Aquascutum golf line was ready for the US Open. The same guy who ran the Burberry golf line now runs the Aquascutum golf line, so there was a relationship there between he and Adam. I didn't put Adam in the top 10 simply because the new Aquascutum line is limited at this point, and he hadn't been in it long enough to allow an informed opinion.
Interestingly, Adam and Aquascutum is the subject of next week's column!www.chapeaunoirgolf.com

It's pretty neat how it came about. A year ago September I started my blog - deciding to focus only on golf apparel. There were simply too many blogs out there talking about golf in general, and to get noticed you have to find a niche that is largely unfilled. I love golf, golf clothes, love to write (have a background in journalism, English lit, and marketing), so I started to write about stuff I like to wear, stuff that fits, stuff that is functional, and stuff that I notice the guys wearing on tour.
I just kept writing, slowly built a bit of an audience, and then started getting asked by other journalists for my opinion on trends etc. Industry people also started reading, and I guess I started to become what is known in the blogosphere as an 'influencer'. One of the things I try to be up front about is that I'm not formally trained in fashion - and I think that is actually a benefit, because a lot of guys don't really want fashion 'advice' from a guy who is.
Based on being quoted in a British newspaper before the Open in July, the editor at pgatour.com started reading my stuff, got in touch with me, and suggested the column. That's pretty much it - a lot of writing, and a bit of good luck.
Hope you guys enjoy reading, it's been lots of fun so far.www.chapeaunoirgolf.com

WOW, all that in just one year!!! That is amazing.
I just noticed your blog and read a few articles. I like it. I love golf fashion although, with two young kids and the lack of having a money growing tree in my backyard, I don’t have the cash to go out there and get what I would like to wear. Golf fashion is expensive but I love to see how the young guns on tour are dressed. Nice!
Anyway, great initiative and keep up the good work. You just got yourself a new reader.
All the best.
