    Golf Around Kingston

    Hi,

I'll be travelling to Kingston for a week (course work at QSB) and wondering if I could get some knowledge of places to play some golf.

Currently I'm looking at Cataraqui (private but should be able to play as a recipricol), Glen Lawerance, and Smugglers Glen.

Thoughts? And any idea on conditions? I played Glen Lawerance last summer and thought it was a decent track...not overly difficult from the back and greens rolled true at decent speed. How about the other 2?

I'm also looking for a good practice facility in the area as well. Must be grass range, short game/pitching area would be great....nice not to be limited to irons only (so I can hit the big stick) as Glen Lawerance is. My gut is telling me Cataraqui would be the best in town? If so I'll have my pro try to arrange practice privilages for me. Any others places to look?

As well, when does the sun set in Kingston? E.g. what is the lastest one can tee-off and still get 18 holes in. A bit of an odd question, but here in AB I can tee off at 6:00pm and still easily get in before it gets too dark.

    Thanks!

Cataraqui is a fantastic course, as is Smugglers Glen which i just played last saturday. Those would be the two best in the area IMHO. Loyalist is a decent track as well. You won't be dissapointed with any of those. Conditions at Cataraqui would be phenomemol, just based on the fact its private and the best course in the city (though I haven't played it this year). Smugglers conditions were excellent as well. We have had a good summer here, lots of sun and lots of rain.

Last night we finished at 8:45 and you probably could have played one more hole - and we're losing sunlight every night now as the summer inches on. Smugglers it would be a bit earlier since a lot of the holes are in a valley, surrounded by forested hills. It depends how busy it is but we finished the back at Smugglers in about 1:20 with no one else in front of us which is what I would think it would be like on a week day.
I got a fever. And the only prescription is more golf equipment.

    Loyalist
Great track, all bent grass and great greens.
If you liked Glen Lawerence, then Loyalist will blow it out of the water.

Thanks guys, how far (driving time) is Loyalist from Queens?
Seeing if it's viable as a option for a round right after I arrive.

From Queen's to Bath give it about a half hour
take the scenic route,.. bath rd as it is actually longer if you get on the 401.

PLayed Loyalist this week and also Smuggs,
Greens at Loyalist are good speed but bumpy as.... lots of kill still, also don't like the homes dotting the entire back nine.
Smuggs is excellent, best value anywhere
