falcon ridge..
played falcon ridge on friday...man those greens..anyway, they have punched the
greens and we were not told before we went out...i personally think that when a course is doing something to its holes they should let people know in advance so
you can decide if you want to play under those conditions, although im not sure
that the punch marks would have made much difference with all the patches that
were already on the greens..............
our other problem was that there was a member who started out in front of us that
kept jumping holes...if there was a bit of a wait he would disappear for a hole or
two, then would show up in front of us again further down the road...mentioned this
at the pro shop, but chances are it will die with the girl at the counter..

That happened to me once at Manderley, I let the pro shop guy (I think the manager)know of our displeasure and he gave us 4 rainchecks. Now that is customer service. Go Manderley Go!

It's that time of year boys
Hate to say it, but you should expect major work to begin on many courses at this time of year. My suggestion is to ask when you book your round if they have punched fairways or greens. Keep in mind it's short-term pain for long-term gain!

We play it fairly often during the year and it is sad to say that the course is in it's best shape all year. We last played a month ago when they had just laid down some patches and it was terrible. We played saturday morning and found it to have been the best this year. It is sad to see it in bad shape and it's sister course always in nice shape. Guess you have to get used to all conditions.

Seems to be that time of year....
CLOVERDALE had all the greens punched (I would say last Saturday?). Coming around but with no sand dressing it was bumpy, bumpy, bumpy putting today.
Still a great way to spend a Monday!

I know at Emerald Links East course was done last Wednesday and the West done before that. They'll be sweet once again boys. Still managed to shoot to 93 on Sat.(East/West)

Just wondering...Why would you expect to see more work being done now? Just because the season's prime is over and they want to get repairs done now before the grounds begin to toughen up with the cold september weather?
I figured that they'd do it all early in the season to make sure they have a prime season, instead of late in the season, when there are less people. I mean, I see the point of doing the work, but I just would've figured you wouldn't see as much work right now...

Actually they do the airating and top dressing a few more times during the year than most people think. I dont know what the shedule is for a course like Meadows where they rotate you on 3 of the 4 nines when they work on one of them. They will close it for a week, work on the greens and anything else that needs repairs, open it and then move on to another nine. This is why their greens are so good throught the year and throughtout all the tournaments it hosts.
It's a part of golf where like someone esle already said, they should be telling you that when you book your tee time. But in an age of internet, and where most of us book online, it's "show up and see time".I've spent most of my life golfing .... the rest I've just wasted"

I believe that from opening until late June Meadows closes one nine every Monday for work and they punch the greens every time. At least that was what a marshall there told me last year.
Their greens are usually great considering the traffic and the base that they have to work on.
They do a lot of work at this time of year to get the grass ready to handle the winter and also in preparation for next spring. For example Eagle Creek closes after Thanksgiving to do all it's fall work.
Enjoy!

falcon ridge
i understand the need for work, but i think the golf course should tell
people that they are doing work, whatever that may be before they pay and go
out...actually they should do it when you call and book your time...it would only take
a few seconds for the person to mention it when you are on the phone and then you would have the choice of booking or not...
