5 wood/3 hybrid - difference?
Hi all,
Any opinions out there? Currently, I carry a driver and 3 wood, then a 3 hybrid before my irons start at 4. How much added benefit is your average hacker (me) likely to get from a 5 wood given that I've got a 3 hybrid?

Not much. You'd probably hit the 3 hybrid better than a 5wd. The hybrid is shorter in length (easier for better contact) and they are made to get the ball in the air more easily (better approach shots).

My two cents, change the 3W for a 4W or 5W.
If you are trying to hit 3W off the fairway then unless you have a lot of clubhead speed/skill you are not likely to get it airborne. A 4W/5W will be easier to hit.
You should be able to hit the 5W further than the 3H.Not fat anymore. Need to get better at golf now!

20 Degree 3 Hybrid or an 18 Degree fairway wood in the end will be within about 10-15 yards of each other. I've got a 20 degree Peanut V2 and i can hit it about twenty yards further than an 18 degree 5 wood. It's all about what you are comfortable with.

For what it's worth, I switched from a Nickent 3-hybrid to a Burner 5-wood, and couldn't be happier. I find the FW to be a lot easier to hit solidly and get up in the air. I also don't have to kill it to get the same distance, and in a pinch can get more out of it. FW is also easier to hit off the tee.
I found that I really had to swing hard with the hybrid to hit good shots. If I tried to hit 3/4 shots it usually ended up a push or a skull.
All this is just my personal experience, so take it with a large grain of salt. I'm a 16 handicap, so my swing is not very consistent, which undoubtedly contributed to my problems with the hybrid.
Cheers,
Alex.
