Chief... you have a really short memory...

Just to mention 1.... Wickenheiser instead of Denis Savard...

Wickenheiser was a pick and therfore it was like heads or tails . A speedster vs a westen bull.

Everyone knows what Halak is worth.

They couldn't keep both goalies. I've always felt that Price was and is the future of the team. Halak had a good run in the playoffs, but trading him to a team that we'll never see until the finals isn't such a bad move. At least the conference rivals can't throw buckets of money at him.

As for the 2 prospects, one was 13th overall, the other is a young forward with scoring potential.

As a Habs fan, this is making the best of a bad situation...people slammed Gainey for not signing Souray (a non-entity in Edmonton), for letting Komisarek go (injuries really limited him last year in TO) and the list goes on and on. The team has been following a set direction in rebuilding the team...

I think its a good trade, things are a lot different in the NHL now because of the cap. you don't need two #1 goalies. to pay for 2 is stupid. Price is better, halak had a good season but lots of goalies have one good season. trade him while you can get something for him while his value is high. Its all about the salary cap. U'll see a lot of these kind of salary dumps since you don't have to match salaries like in the nba

Halak is a RFA and had told Montreal he wanted to be traded. Apparently he was mad that he did not play more earlier in the season.

something smells fishy, there's gotta be something else brewing........maybe Brodeur finishes his career in montreal and mentors Price in the process.....let the rumours begin

Eller is considered a blue chip prospect, ranked 23rd nhl prospect, Subban's 20th, 2nd in AHL scoring amongst rookie players, but still a prospect so will see.

Looking at the salary he got, obviously it was a cap issue. They had to sign Pleks long term and they have to resign Markov and a few more next year. Price is cheaper, younger and has more raw talent. Halak outplayed Price the past two years but he is a small stature goalie and that takes a toll during the playoffs. NHL is a business and Halak salary did not fit in the Habs plan.

Now for those who think Price is not good, all I can say is Fleury was in the same position at the beginning of his career. His confidence was squished. It took him some time to mature and get back on track. Look at him now. It’s hard to foresee the future but it’s a fare comparison. The habs organization think they can get him back on track at a cheaper price then Halak. Let’s hope they are right.
Strive for perfection, but never expect it!
