    One.

I'm not really sure why 7 is the magic number. I suppose it's close enough to 9 to count as a 9-hole round.

    Just seems arbitrary.

In reality, only members and pros ever have "practice rounds". Nobody is crazy enough to shell out from $40 to $80 just to practice, so if you're a green-fee player then you're never having a practice round no matter what you say!

Well... I guess I'm crazy then because I'm not a member anywhere and I'm surely not a pro.

Oaks of Cobden will cost me $18 to play this sunday because I'm with Reservation Masters. Which is like 2 buckets of balls at 19th tee lol.

but i agree with you, i would never play loch march for $70 and call it a practice round.

can I put a twist on this and ask?

As a new player (1st season) when do you stop calling your rounds practice and start keeping track to get a handicap score?

Strictly speaking, ALL rounds played according to the Rules count so as soon as you do that, you should be recording them.
Not fat anymore. Need to get better at golf now!

the max handicap you can have in canada is 36 i believe. So if you're shooting more than 110 per round (18 holes), I dont think it's even worth it to keep a handicap. I personally wouldn't, I would just go out there and have fun. If I started shooting around 100 or less, then I'd start figuring out what my handicap was.

Last year when I started playing golf again, I thought my scores in the high 90's were going to give me a handicap of 10-ish. boy was i disappointed when i entered my scores and the calculator told me my cap was 25!
