Drove a green, ka-kaw!!!!!!!!!!!
Haven't driven a green since I was in my early 20's at Emerald Links. Played Marshes today, on hole 11 from the blues drove the green and ended up with bird. All day long, 300 yard drives straight down the pipe. Giggady!!!!!!!!!!!! Take that arthritis!!!!!!!!

You hit the wrong green Donny. It is not what you had for breakfast but you had to drink before and during the round

Love that hole. Hybrid off tee, PW to greem, 1 putt birdie while playing partner goes for green and ends up with bogey.
Way to go Donny.Lots of yoga pants these days, not enough Yoga!

Way to go Donny. I like that hole, such a risk / reward hole. To hit that green is tough enough from the fairway, but to do it from the tee. Good Job!

Great drive no doubt but most probably a 230-240 poke at best.
Not a 300 yarder for sure. The hole is 296 from the blues.

By flying the water you cut off a big chunk of that 296. Alas only a few on this here forum can claim such long pokes on a straight away hole.

In google earth it measures 285 from the middle of the long tee deck (blues?) to the ctr of the green.
Nice drive Donny!Life dinnae come wit gimmies so yuv got nae chance o' gitt'n any from me.

300
With the right swing, wind, ball flight, launch angle, ball, humidity, trajectory, roll, spin, rabbit's foot, horse shoe, full moon, star alignment...it could be possible. I looked at number 11 on Marshes site, as Chief said, it looks possible, improbable, but possible. Anything is possible in the right conditions. Well done!

It isn't the distance that impressed me, it is the accuracy of the shot. For those who haven't played that hole there are water hazards, on the left, right and long of the green with bunkers hugging the front right corner of the green and a deepish collection area on the left side, the kidney shaped green is on an angle to the fairway and slightly elevated. I've seen many a good looking shot miss the green by a mere 5-10 feet only to see it kick off of the slope and down into the hazard. Your best odds of hitting the green are to play a high fade that lands soft.
I've hit this green from the Whites with a hybrid and a 5 wood, but the if the Blues were on the proper deck, that angle of approach is even more tricky and that extra 40-50 yards isn't anything to sneeze at.
Well done Donny, but you seem focused on the distance of the shot which I think is really underselling the level of difficulty.Last edited by Hacker; 05-12-2010 at 07:54 PM.

Both my playing partners tried too, but took a drop after losing in the left hazard. Needless to say, I won the skin. Not sure I'd do that if I was first up in a match play situation though, all depend on the situation I guess.

270 yds from the middle of the large tee box to the front of the green. That hole plays west to east so should have a bit of a tailwind. I say its completely doable.

Who cares if it rolled or not. Last I checked, the roll still qualified as part of the shot. And, it's not like he was playing Vieux Moulins, where the fairways run about as fast and hard as an F1 track.
1 shot to get to the green is still 1 shot to get to the green. Kudos.

Nothing personal against Donny. I've met him twice and he is as nice a person as can be so please take that out of your head. What I do have a hard time with is the 300 yard claim from anybody, If you read my previous post I have said that only a few here can bang it 300 under normal conditions. I have played with long hitters and have hardly ever seen a 300 yard drive unless the conditions were favourable(wind, downhill you name it) or the ground was hard as a rock such as it can be at the VM during drought periods. So yes it is possible to hit a 230-240 drive that will roll another 60 yards or so but only when the conditions are perfect. How many times have you heard the 300 yard claim in your golfing lifetime Dan? How many have you seen it other than on TV? How many people claim 300 yard drives when they can only hit their 7 iron 145?

I have played with quite a few people on here who can hit 300y drives. Maybe not on average, but that number is definitely in their wheelhouse. I have GPS'd them as well, no doubt about the number.
