I hesitate to jump into this fracas but I felt compelled to do so. One might laugh at another person's arguments (they might be illogical or silly , for example), but laughing at the person does little to advance your own arguments or to garner support for your views.

... Anyway, that's my season in review, and anybody who says the Wings are tired and old doesn't know what they're talking about, and I have no problem laughing at them.

You probably don't know this (too young) but when the Oilers, Habs and the Islanders won there was NO Olympics.... really big difference... this year the schedule was awful for the big guys (Crosby, Zett, Datsiuk, Lidstrom, etc...) so many players from the Wings played in the Olympics.... I guarentee you, they are tired and hurt... nagging injuries just don't go away... most if not all of the players are hurting...

Is that why they lost... probably not but it didn't help...

Why was Franzen the best player... he is the most rested playing only 27 games during the regular season...

MBerube was repeating a myth. It's not even his own original idea. If it was his idea he would bring some evidence or facts to the arguement. He didn't. To say that Detroit is tired when they lose is a joke statement, it's an excuse that some Red Wings fans repeat and I don't want to hear it. If we're tired then why isn't Pittsburgh tired? When asked last summer by a reporter if the summer was too short because they had gone to 2 Stanley cup finals, Henrick Zetterberg said

“I don’t think the summer is short,” he said. “I would rather play hockey than work out in the gym. It would be tougher if summer was longer. You have your two or three weeks to take off. You have plenty of time to go back and see family and friends. I don’t want summer to be any longer.”

The fact is that Detroit is not as skilled/talented as they were the last three seasons. We lost a ton of talent and replaced them with far less talented players. We lost Hossa's 40 goal output, we lost Hudler (talented third liner), we lost Samuelson (PP specialist) who is playing great for Vancouver, and we replaced these guys with 3rd or 4th line bums. I think we scored 150 goals less this year than last year. Guys we expected to grow up didn't, specifically Helm, Filpulla, Abdelkader, Erickson. Our top guns didn't produce like in years past, Datsyuk at 70 pts for the season is a major fail. Jimmy Howard is our lone bright spot on the year. I hope the Wings get rid of some soft euros and put in hard nosed grinders next season. We have to punish teams physically, I think we're too easy a team to play against.

Anyway, that's my season in review, and anybody who says the Wings are tired and old doesn't know what they're talking about, and I have no problem laughing at them.

There you go now your making a valid argument, why couldn't u just say that in the 1st place rather then say someone's opinion is from a newspaper when some of your statement have been rather questionable. Those euros you speak of, are what as made that team the envy of the NHL the last 15yrs so careful what you wish for Burkie.

maybe they're hurting, maybe they're not, it's the playoffs so i do not use tired/hurt/exhausted as a reason why Detroit lost to San Jose. Joe Pavelski was the best player for the Sharks and he played in the olympics. Thorton, Marleau, Heatley too. The big guns all played very well, and so I think the olympics was a non factor.

i'm not trying to change anyone's mind here, take it easy.

The last 5 minutes of the second period was a clinic in determination. I hope they come out with that kind of fire in Game 7. Not to say that Halak didn't have to play well again tonight, but it looked like the boys out front decided that they weren't going to sit on his shoulders tonight, and took the fight to the other end of the ice a bit more.

I noticed a lot of Penguins fans on other message boards are annoyed with it too. Personally, i think it's great. I love the enthusiasm in European hockey matches too, they bring fireworks and flares as if it were a soccer match. What's next, hockey houligans?

The league lost their dream match-up ofr Crosby vs. Ovie so now they are fixing things in favour of the Original 6 match-up of Montreal vs. Boston

Actually I have no idea whether Montreal is full value or not as I've not been watching.

I'm sick and tired of how the game TOTALLY CHANGES come play-off time.

If the leafs could muster enough points during the regular season to actually make the play-offs they'd win the cup hands down because they are built to hook, hold, obstruct and stop just short of killing and/or maiming the opposition......because that is the brand of hockey that the league promotes in the play-offs.

Since you're not watching, you don't know that your assumption as to the style of post-season play for Montreal and Pittsburgh is simply wrong. Yes there is some clutching and grabbing but it is not pronounced. More to the point, the refs have no hesitancy in calling penalties. But more importantly, this is exciting and fast hockey. You are missing some real excitement. You might want to actually watch the game before judging its quality.
