Designated Drop Area

Hi Gary,

I've noticed in Loch March's local rules that 3 of the 4 par-3's have designated drop areas.

In an instance where the drop areas (on any course) are specified in the local rules, do these drop areas supercede the regular rules pertaining to water hazards and lateral water hazards, or are they to be used as an additional option for dropping in accordance with the rules?

That depends on whether the wording of the Local Rule says may or must.

It is allowable to be written either way.

Quoting from the scorecard:

"Designated drop area for ball in hazard on #7, #13, and #16."

Suitably ambiguous if you ask me.

There is an indication of a Local Rule on the scorecard, but somewhere at the course there will/should be the actual text of the Local Rule.
