No pei teams at the nationals

For those who don't know , the Rcga cut funding to the provinces to 20000, here is what that does to us,

I an on the tournament committee for our Provincial Amateur. We had an emerg meeting to discuss our options. The Rcga cut funding fom 56000 to 20000. At first they said to get the 20 we had to send all teams to the nationals. This was changed to sending 4 teams. The mens and womens and the two juniors.This was the stipulation, send these four and get the 20000 . Here lies the problems for the smaller provinces. We are not even sure if this year we have enough ladies to have a team but that is secondary to the fact that to get the 20 we have to go 11000 in debt. We figured a rough budget of 31000 to send the 4 teams and this was cutting corners. Is is fair yo all PEI golfers to only look after 16players. Also to send the 16 we would risk bankruptsy. Really a no win situation so we had no choice of opting out, not accepting the money. Try and help players go on there own, send the juniors to the regionals and fund raise if any want to go to the nationals.
The rcga is sour the east coast amateur hs more world rank points, they want to fly someone in from anywhere as long as there world rank is high enough. We decided to make this public and get as much attention as possible. For those who think there associations can withstand this cuts think again only 4 can manage, the rest will be in the same boat in less than two yrs . The rcga is giving up on Canadians and boosting there ego's with ranking points.Put pressure on your executive, do not accept this ,this is a set back to Can golf. TIM

That is truly unfortunate. PEI used to have a very active amateur program. The Nationals will be the lesser for their absence.
