Make all the jokes that you want but he is trying to attone. Takes a set to do a commercial where you are being taken to task by the voice of your dead Father....

I don't aprove of Earl's words being used in a Nike ad postumously and without his personal consent. Tiger looks like a kid being scolded for misbehaving. Kinda strange really. Marketing sure has changed since the days of...

Just a contrast between then and now. It's a totally different marketing landscape.
BTW: That was an ad. I doubt Earl's words were intended to sell golf clubs.Life dinnae come wit gimmies so yuv got nae chance o' gitt'n any from me.

So the point of that ad was... Oh yah... to make Tiger himself marketable again on Nike's behalf. Thanks Earl. Good work on resurecting your kids image from beyond.

Saw the ad on CTV news this morning. I think it is a marketing mistake. It's too early for that stoic, gentleman look. My wife's first words, "what a fake"
He should just play golf, keep it in his pants and out of the tabloids for a year and just push the Nike products first (like the Victory Red irons, Victory Red shirts, and a whole new line of Victory red safes

Nike should be ashamed of using a dead person like that for a commercial... Who had the bright idea ........
Was this what TW was doing while in rehab.... Part of rebuilding himself... Pathetic.Golfing only thing on my mind.......

Not certain the spot will hit its mark. However, it will generate buzz, and negative buzz is still buzz. I give it a thumbs down.

I believe this is not the first time they have used his voice in a commercial after his passing.

I am almost positive this was after his death. So why is it so bad now?!

I don't give a rat's arse where Woods chose to play on his off-time, but he and Nike using his dead father to make a buck off this punk's thoughtlessness is just plain reprehensible.
Wrong, even. Extremely bad taste. Etcetera.
Shame on Nike and on Woods.
... "and that" said Forrest, "is all I have to say about that."
Cheers!

Strong words for sure and an appropriate call-out I think.
Here is somebody else's equally strong view.

Bollocks!
Why does anyone other than Tiger, his mother, and sibling(s?) care about the use of his fathers voice-over? Give me a break!
'Pops' has always been an important cog in the Tiger machine, and continues to be posthumously. Big deal.
We'll obviously never know, but I bet Earl would approve of this ad.Al Gore didn't invent the internet, but he did invent global warming.

If Tiger and his family are okay with this, I don't see why others have such a problem with it.
There are numerous other examples of people who have passed being used in commercials without such howls of feigned offence.Al Gore didn't invent the internet, but he did invent global warming.

This looks like a bit of a PR move (for both Nike and Tiger) as well as trying to play on the emotions of possible consumers. Everyone knows what an influence his father played in his life. Maybe they are attempting to play into the consumers emotions for times when they have disappointed their father and how terrible they felt, and maybe they are trying to relay how terrible Tiger feels and that he's going to be a changed man. Don't read into this as I forgive Tiger, because I really don't care about the whole thing anymore. I am just saying I think it's a cool commercial, because I feel that's what his father would say. It's not going to make me play Nike clubs, but I like the commercial.
In terms of Nike they are probably trying to relay that they are standing behind Tiger because they know he's going to be a changed man. Who knows...maybe it's the beginning of other short commercials.

This is all about selling stuff, of course it always is.
The ad is simply trying to show that Tiger is remoresful with that sad stupid look on his face and the fact that he is supposedly being talked to by his dead dad.
They are trying to show that he has hit rock bottom and that his dad would not be proud.
Basically, no where to go but up.
I don't buy it, I think it is disgusting that Tiger would allow this. It's okay for Tiger to say or pretend that he is sorry, but to use his dad to get sympathy from the masses, might be genious to some, but seems like he is once again resorting to whatever he needs to do to make more Mullah.
He's changed and it's all about the golf, yeah right."Bubba-Size Your Drive"

I felt almost embarassed watching it. Definitely too soon. Like others have said I think he should have laid low for a while longer before having a new commercial.

I cannot understand why anyone would allow a company to exploit his dead father for their own personal financial gain. Real class act, right.

Well, in all fairness, Nike was the only company that really took a risk and said they would stand by Tiger. Makes sense that he'd feel some loyalty to them and do his best to help get their partnership back heading in a positive direction.

this.
If i had advice for Tiger, just play golf man. Forget about resurrecting your status as a clean cut poster boy for golf, it's over, you're damaged goods. I'm sure it was Nike's idea to rush him back to making commercials and trying to win people's hearts. Tiger should tell Nike to shove it. He's not going to win people's hearts by staring into the camera lens, or giving millions to charity, he's going to win people's hearts back if he grows up, takes care of his family and wins golf tournaments. He's got to do all 3/3, not 2/3, or 1/3.You only get out of something what you put into it

Do you really believe that Nike can make Tiger do anything he doesn't really want too, especially using his dead father's voice, I think not.
Tiger could get a new equipment deal in less than a microsecond.
Since Tiger is #1 and just in case Tiger passes Jack's record, Nike wouldn't go anywhere if Tiger told them to take a flying leap."Bubba-Size Your Drive"
