Dominican Republic
Hi there,
I might be going with some friends there in February. Anyone been there and golfed. Any course recommendations?

Teeth of the Dog
While I've never been there I remember reading in Golf Magazine that Casa de Compo (sp?) a.k.a. The Teeth of the Dog is THE course to play in the Dominican.

Where in Dominican are you staying?
I stayed in Puerto Plata a few years back and played a round on the course (can't remember the name). But it is the only course within the compound in Puerto Plata.
Here's my experience:
1. The back was under green renovation and they neglected to tell me that when I paid my money. So needless to say all the back nine had temporary greens and that is the nine I had to play.
2. At $45 US it was a pretty expensive nine holes with temporary greens.
3. I was forced to hire a caddie at $10 US for nine holes and then he showed his disapproval when I gave if him a tip (I thought it was a very generous tip but he didn't think so).
4. The course was in desperate need of water.
5. Bring your clubs if you plan to play a lot. I unfortunately had to rent and that wasn't very good (very well used equipment).

I'll probably be playing at puerto plata.
They have other courses there now though.

Wow em69 that is some tourist trap you found there.
About $100 CDN for 9 crappy holes and attitude!!!
You are forced to hire a caddy... pay his fee, tip him and take grief over inadequately tipping when you did not want him in the first place?!
:cryingLife dinnae come wit gimmies so yuv got nae chance o' gitt'n any from me.

priceless
Kinda reminds me of a commercial:
9 holes of crappy golf - $75
Belligerent caddie - $15
Belligerent caddie's tip - $7.50
Tropical golf in January - Priceless!
Crappy or not, golf is golf.

DR golf
I'm going to Punta Cana and will be playing there at the Barcelo Bavaro course. Played the course last year, six rounds in the seven days there. Course was so so, greens were tough as they were all elevated, wide, not very deep and well bunkered. Will be taking lots of balata balls to try and hold the greens. Just to be out golfing then and then lie around on the beach is great. I don't need the best course just some good company and golf. Played last year with someone from France, Sweden, Venezula, US and other Canadians. Had a great time and that's why we're going again this year.
