    Advice please: Regripping shortened clubs

I just scored a set of "starter" clubs from a fellow forum member and plan to cut them down for my son.

I thought that this would be a good opportunity for me to try regripping (sure as heck ain't gonna do it on MY sticks! (grin)) and am wondering if there are any tricks involved in getting grips to fit a kid's hand (small for his age, about the size of an 11 year old) and a presumably smaller diameter shaft.

Specifically, I dunno if there are grips designed for smaller shafts, or if I have to build up the shaft with tape... Er, and then there's all the other stuff that I don't know.

    Thanks guys,

    Cheers!

If they are mens clubs you have to be careful of cutting them down. You can change how the club plays. The swing weight will be off and the shaft will stiffen. How much are you planning on cutting off?

There are grips made for juniors that are smaller in diameter. Just ask at Golfworks or wherever you buy your grips.

Just a word of caution, junior grips tend to have ribs in them and if you don't get them on right, you will mess up their grip/clubface alignment in a heartbeat. I stopped using ribbed grips on my clubs because I could not get the grip to line up 100% with a square clubface.

Junior grops is a good start but depending on how much you cut you'll have to build up with masking or dock tape. It would also be a good idea to soft step by putting the 3 iron shaft in the 6 iron shaft and so on.
