    Road tracks around Ottawa

Just wondering... I'd like to take my 'Stang to a track where I could open her up and see how fast the pony will run. Obviously the 416 isn't the appropriate place, nor do I want to convert her into a racer (roll cage etc) to run with the serious racers at the speedway. I just want to find a stretch of road where I can legally open her up.

    Ideas?

I work with some guys who race and I think the track out near the Canadian doesn't require a roll cage from what they said.

Well, that's Capital City Speedway and from the website it looks like it is just used for races. According to the rules on the site you need a roll cage and a three point harness with 3" seat belts, aluminum racing seat, driver's window net... etc to race. No mention of allowing running on the track when it's not being used for racing.

I'm not looking for a race. I just want to try driving it faster than I can on a highway.

It might be somewhere else then because I know that the one guy doesn't have a cage. I'm on vacation this week but I can ask him when I get back.

They may have "speed trial" days where you go out by yourself.

I'll give them a call. They may be able to help if they don't do it there.

There is a road track at Calabogie and another road track at Tremblant.
    Obviously you're not a golfer.

My buddy used to take his viper out to Shannonville and race it out there. No cage or roll bar on his.

http://www.calabogiemotorsports.com Looks perfect, but pricey. Maybe someday.

Might just drive out and have a look, play the course, make a day of it.

Shannonville is affordable. 5 laps for $20. That will happen for sure!

Check out the MotorSports Club of Ottawa www.mco.org

They are awesome...I was a member for a couple of years when i first arrived here and was dabbling with Rally Driving.

Their Driving courses are first class with excellent instruction and they have various disciplines (including their Autocross and Track racing schools which I'm sure you'd enjoy). They also organise Track Days which would suit you fine. They go Calabogie often, but watch out, there are lots of M3 and Porsche enthusiasts there and while I'm sure your Mustang is quick in a straight line those guys are pretty nimble on a track.

    Have fun

Got the MCO bookmarked. My car in no way will ever compete with anything. It's just a stock 3.8 V6. But I do love the way it sticks to the highway and there is lots left to go faster. I wanna do that, and the car wants to as well, but it's gotta be on a track.

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised just how fast you can go and how late you can brake on those tracks, most people never drive their cars to even 30% of their potential performance....I think you'll have a total blast

calabogie is a fun track, took the S2000 there last year. Only a few open track days and can get quite busy. Go to have some fun, but the porsche and vette guys will drive you nuts.
