Canadian Mid-AM Royal Ottawa - Eligibility

I just found out how to get into this event, if anyone cares here it is.
    • Quebec Zone has 18 spots (including our 4 man team, made up of atleast 2 players 40 and older)**Minium age is 25
    • All spots will be given out in order of your finish at the Quebec Mid-am at Whitlock in June
    • If you are in the top 18 and chose not to use your spot that spot is given to the RCGA
    • They then have a "Qualifying round" for all remaining positions is the field
    • In order to get into that "Qualifying round" you must apply via resume to get one of the 80 positions in the one day qualifier
**In order to get into the Quebec Mid-am you must be on the Quebec ladder, they chose names down the list in order of ranking.
***This is the only way in, even if you win the Tunis or Duke this year, you still have to get in via the Quebec Mid-am

Hope this helps, Good Luck to everyone at the Quebec Mid-AM.

    Not entirely true...

Close. but you're not entirely correct.

You can apply to get into the field directly through the RCGA. Any quota spots the provinces do not use are returned to the RCGA committee and they make a decision on how many more direct entries they will accept and how many will come from the qualifying round. For a field of 156 they usually have 150 - 152 direct into the field and 4 - 6 from the qualifying round.

Your comment about the winning the Tunis or Kent is incorrect. Most winners of any provincial sanctioned / conducted stroke play or match play event will gain entry into the field if there is room. (i.e. any Golf Quebec designated tournament that counts towards the differential ladder). If you are over 25 and win a major amateur event, you can submit your entry to the RCGA, along with your playing resume, for their review and in some cases, not even having to play in the Quebec Mid Am. The "easiest" way in, of course, is to play in the Quebec Mid Am, and place in the top 18. Golf Quebec has 18 spots to use, so if the players who placed 17th and 18th decide they are not going, the spots can be awarded by Golf Quebec to the next highest finishers. If they are not taken after offers are made, then, the spots are to be transferred back to the RCGA. (FYI; At the Quebec Mid Am after the first round the field is cut to top 70 and ties, then after round 2 the field is cut again to top 20 and ties. Basically if you make it to the 3rd round, you have a great chance at playing your way in to the top 18 and an quota spot)

Direct from the RCGA Tournament info Entry Form:
Non-Exempt, Non Provincial Quota Entrants: All non-exempt, non Provincial Quota players are required to file an application. If over-subscribed, these entrants will be selected by the RCGA based on previous championship experience, RCGA Handicap Factor and geographic location. The official Canadian Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship Resume must be sent with the original application in order for consideration into the field. The number of available spots is based on unused exemptions and Quota spots.>>

If you look on the tournament fact sheet, for the week of August 16 - 20, there is no qualifying round scheduled (there is a qualifier at the Canadian Amateur in London though, and there was last year in Montreal)

For the complete details, please go the the RCGA website, www.rcga.org and click the competitive tab. You will find all of the National events scheduled there and the info for each one including exemptions and qualifying.

The Royal Ottawa was contacted by the RCGA to inform them that there will be a "Qualifying Round". So thanks for your information but I know that much is true. Also, the spots that are unused by the province quote do go back to the RCGA.
