Removing the Detour from Newport Detour 2.5

Any one ever done this or know anything about it? I did a google search and searched the cameron collector website but came back with very little.

I have one coming to me but I want toe remove the detour alignment aid. Beside the obvious weight reduction is there anything else I should know?

I'm not 100% sure, but wasn't the alignment aid portion of that putter also the face of the putter? I believe it extends through the head and forms the insert.

hmmm that could get tricky then lol. I don't have the putter here yet but it looks like it has to screws on the back. I thought I could undo those and it would just come off. If it's attached to the face then things will get complicated.

Dremel tool. You can rename it "Franken Putter" when you are done.

Of course is Scotty did it he would charge $5000 for the customization.
Not fat anymore. Need to get better at golf now!

There is a thread on putter talk somewhere (I can't find it) where someone took the detour alignment aid off and put in a terilym insert and it turned out awesome.

    BOS did it. http://www.puttertalk.com/community/...html#msg212902

You can see from the photos that the insert extends to the back of the cavity where the alignment aid would normally come out. It might only be glued to the insert, but I think it's one piece.

Undo the bolts and drop the head in acetone overnight. The caulking should dissolve away...It is one piece.

Have you tried this? Any chance you have a link or pics where they show it as one piece?

    Thanks

No pics of the insert, but pretty sure that it would be more expensive to have to weld 2 pieces together instead of simply milling the insert and tail. FYI, Scotty won't refinish these as there are environmental laws preventing work on alumunium heads in California.

If you are planning on neutering the nd, you'll be losing the weight as well. That would put the head at less than 310 grams, more likely sub-300. Unless you were shafting it at 38", it would feel very light.

I thought of the weight. What I was think of doing was having a small plate made at a metal shop that I could bolt back on, if not lead tape will work.

The detour is indeed one piece. I think I will take it to a metal shop and see if they can make me a new insert out of copper or something soft but heavy. I'll post some pics of the finished product if I actually get around to doing this.

I'd love to see it Denny, keep us posted. If you can find someone to do it, I may try it as well.
