Spring Openings
Any news on when courses are planning to start opening in view of the great March weather. I was talking to one of the managers from Anderson Links and they are looking at the first week of April.

I would say most courses in the area will be opening the second week of April. Some may push it to the first week. If this mild weather holds. Not much chance of many if any opening before then, except maybe Calabogie or some of the courses farther south. The private courses won't open till mood to late April..

I have played Vieux Moulins as early as April 6/7. If this weather holds they could open as early as the weekend of the 3rd.

Which course is considering opening next Monday. I remember playing Tecumseh on March 28, 1980. We played with rubber boots on, but then who cares, we were playing golf the earliest ever.....LOL

We usually play Mapleview in late March, usually quite dry.
I was out at Metcalfe yesterday doing some work, and given the amount of snow and such that is still on the fairways that i could see form the clubhouse, it will be a while before that melts away. If that is reflective of what the other courses in the area are like, it will be April before they open.It could be that the purpose of your life is only to serve as a warning to others.

I can see the Marshes from my office window and there is a lot of grass showing. With the rain tomorrow it will be interesting to see what it looks like on Monday.

lots of snow still on the fairways at the Hylands
I got a fever. And the only prescription is more golf equipment.

Not much snow left in Aylmer. I bet a few courses will open this week.

There is hardly any snow noticable when driving by Pineview.

Two weeks ago when there was mostly rain and some wet snow IN the city, Greensmere had 14 INCHES of heavy wet snow fall on the course, as we are 3*C to 4*C cooler than Kanata, for example. It makes sense then, that there will be a great variation in "opening" days, around the valley.

Lyle, looking forward to playing the new 9 holes at Greensmere.Let us know when they open.

The Hylands never opens early. They have a set time they open and they don't usually alter from it too much. Same with their closing. It used to be Oct 30th regardless of how good the weather was. The good thing about that course is that it dries out very quickly being sand based. i haven't played it since I left, might have to try out again now that I'm not so bitter!

Courses opening
So from what I can see, people are saying Vieux Moulins and Mapleview may be the first to open?
I called and talked with Calabogie they predict maybe next weekend, this rain should help, and wind...
Thanks for the help...

I talked to the "CEO" last week and it is likely that when we open for the season that all 36 holes will be in play. The "gold" nine and the new holes will be reordered into an, as yet unnamed,18. Effectively, we start and end the 18 with 4 new and 5 new holes, respectively.

Lyle did they never pick the name for the new 9's? I remember entering a contest for that a while back...

We've played either Mapleview or Prescott or Dragonfly in March each year for the past 4 years. I'm guessing that should hold up this year. Judging by the forecasts on weather network, I figure most of the ice and snow is gone up home? The only ice I've seen for the past two weeks has been in my margurita! I'm all pumped and ready and rust-free for the start of the 2010 season in the valley.

Fox fire is in Syracuse, may as well head to Golf2000 instead, no border, easier to get to, less time, and smoked meat on the way back

Looks like Liverpool in Syracuse is open with carts... Now that being said we played there in March last year and took carts.. We got stuck a couple times and there is no way the carts should have been out there.. Fun track though.

Marshes looks very good. Most greens are uncovered with little or no ice damage or snow mold. Still at least 3 weeks from opening. The range may open sooner though.

I wonder if we will suffer from the winter being "too dry" this year. It usually takes a few weeks before the irrigation systems are thawed out and working.

Not usually an issue being too dry in the spring until mid to late May here.
