Thread: Will Team Canada (Men) Medal?
-

Years ago when Canada was beating these so called "garbage" teams everyone was sick of seeing 10-0 11-0 games, but now theses teams start playing a system to allow them to compete hence Canada only beats them by a goal or two and now we suck?
Canada beat the US they did not beat Miller and Russia is a 2 line team that does not play well in the defensive zone. If they play true Canadian hockey tonight they will beat the Russians if they get away from that and play a run and gun style they will lose. All I can say is that this should be a great game and I cant wait to watch it!Last edited by Mattchew; 02-24-2010 at 12:25 PM.

Poor Kharlamov was never the same again.
Ovechkin's going to get his chances for sure, but if they can limit the effectiveness of his linemates he'll have to work that much harder. We've seen Malkin fold up before after taking a couple of solid hits. And I think that Babcock has to keep Pronger and Niedermayer away from him (unless Pronger's wallpapering him to the boards ).
Canada should be successful if they keep the pressure on down low. In "small ice" hockey, the majority of 5-on-5 goals come from turnovers created by pressure. Limit their time and space lads. When applying the Rules, you follow them line by line. You don't read between them.

That's the main reason why I thought Pronger was a poor choice for Team Canada. Love him or hate him, he plays his best hockey when he plays on the edge, but you get away with a lot less in international play than you do in the NHL.

Just like I said! Put the pressure on, limit time and space, and hit anything that moves!

Not a hockey expert by any means but i thought that was a fantastic performance tonight...especially in the first period.
A good day for Canada at the games. I think we have a real chance of topping the Official Medal table.
This quote from the BBC puts it nicely I think
"Canada are now up to third in the medal table behind Germany and USA. The Germans have seven golds, 10 silver, seven bronze for a total of 24; USA have seven golds, nine silver, 12 bronze for a total of 28; and Canada have seven golds, six silver, two bronze for a total of 15. If they're not quite "owning the podium", Canada at least have a nice little timeshare plan going on."

It's definately less 'floppy' after last night! LOL
Don't think I've ever wanted to be so wrong in my life, last night makes me believe that the team can impose their will on anyone and destroy!!! Awesome display!Donny Vantage NFL Guru, since 1974

Agreed.
I was one of the the naysayers who thought Russia would take this one. Brilliant coaching and execution.
A couple of things bothered me though. Firstly, Boyle's slewfoot on the Russian player (was it Afinigonov?) He could have easily smacked his head on the ice.
Secondly, I heard Crosby blew his nose into his hand before shaking with the Russians after the game. I didn't see it, but I sure hope that didn't really happen.Al Gore didn't invent the internet, but he did invent global warming.

Haha...Crosby definitely did blow his nose into his hand before the handshake...me and my friends were commenting on it. Not sure though, he may well have wiped it on his jersey before the actual shake.
