Washing Baseball Caps
I thought I remember reading about a place in Ottawa that you could bring your ball caps to to be cleaned by a fancy machine.
Anyone know where this place is?
Thanks

Don't throw any hat you like in the washing machine, the peak and structure will be ruined. I just douse mine with incredibly hot water a few times a summer.

I've lost a couple of hats to the washing mashine....don't do it.
I have *heard* a few people say you can do it in the dishwasher, on the top rack, but I've never tried it. To me, the grime is part of the charm of a good hat. It adds character.

I put my white ball caps on the top rack of the dishwasher...works like a charm. You'll be surprise how clean it comes out and no structural damage. Try it before going a more costly route.

I also wash my caps in the dishwasher. I have a plastic frame that helps the cap keep it's shape.

I throw them in the washing machine all the time. We have a front loader with a 'hand wash' cycle, which seems to work like a charm.

I suppose I should have clarified that we have a double-load washing machine without one of those middle spinner things...but I've never had a problem with ruining the structure of the hat. Although, I prefer unstructured hats.

t actually depends on the hat. You will need to check the inside of the hat to see what it is made from. Older hats (back in the 80's) actually had a cardboard peak, and thus washing them basically destroyed them. Any hat that can be washed in a dishwasher can be washed in a washing machine (on a gentle cycle), because it is actually the hot water that does damage to some types of hats, not the process of washing (unless you choose too violent of a wash cycle). Many hats are cotton/polyester and can be washed in a washing machine/dishwasher in cold or warm water (this is easier to control in the washing machine) but those that are wool, or contain wool require hand washing. All hats need to air dry! Do not put them in the dryer or use the dry cycle on your dishwasher as this will deform them. Another issue with water temperature is that if the water is too hot, the colours will bleed a bit and any white on the hat may be discoloured. As mentioned in previous posts, there are plastic cap covers that are sold for use in the washing machine, I believe they sell them at Lids (there is one at Carlingwood). Properly washing a hat will greatly prolong its life and spare others from the smell of an unwashed cap. There are also a ton of DIY sites for washing caps. However, if as you said in your original post, you want to pay someone to do it, most if not all drycleaners have a service for this.

I use the dishwasher. Works well for me. However, they get dirty pretty fast.
