    It's Official! Hasek's a Sen!!!

Well, after much speculation, Hasek has been introduced as an Ottawa Senator. Jason Spezza gave up his #39 and will now wear #19 in honour of Alexei Yashin ( ). The whole thing smacks of Stanley Cup!!!

As a Czech Canadian living in Ottawa, this is a dream come true!!!

Lets just hope he stays off the injury list.

So now Spezza's gonna be a bust! That #19 scares me.....

Just kidding, Hasek is going to be great for the Sens, healthy or not, good things will happen....

    Oh yeah, Leafs suck!!

I seconde mberube and Big_duck on that... I just hope he doesn't turn out to be as useless to the Sens as he was to the Wings... Otherwise, someone's gonna have to make Muckler pay for his mistake.

I just hope Hasek can forget about that journalist in Ottawa who blasted him in the papers for not giving his all into the playoffs back when Ottawa played Buffalo in the playoffs. I just hope Hasek makes him swallow back his comments... Only time will tell.

I fail to see any reference to Ottawa being guaranteed the Cup, but having Hasek can't be any worse than having Lalime. Nobody seemed to find Belfour's questionable health and age a factor last year when Toronto beat Ottawa squarely on his efforts.

If you can think of a better goalie that was realistically attainable on the free agent market, by all means let us know. Maybe Grant Fuhr or Andy Moog would still be out there............... :shake

And Belfour just signed a 3-year deal at the tender age of...........?

$2-million is peanuts for this guy.

If you want to get technical, there are regular performance bonuses, and it's actually a per round bonus of $1-million, up to a maximum of $4-million if Ottawa wins the Cup. Also, Ottawa holds a club option for another season at $3-million base salary and similar bonus clauses. I was trying to keep things in perspective. He hasn't played a game for us yet, so that bonus money is all theoretical. I've already spent enough time writing an article on this signing, and didn't want to repeat myself.

GAWD! From a Leaf fan perspective I just wish the Sens would finally win the goddamn thing so we don't have to listen to all the whining, *ing and complaining every year.

Seriously, the Sens are taking a big chance here. If it pays off, great. But if it doesn't its going to start looking like Washington or New York around here. I'd hate to see Melnyk resort to choking fans in the parking lot.
When applying the Rules, you follow them line by line. You don't read between them.

I remember Ottawa getting beaten in the conference final a few years back and it wasn’t Lalime’s fault. Actually Lalime was one of the best that year. One bad season and out you go. New comer…..her comes the cup. I would be happy to see Ottawa bring the cup home but I would be very surprised.

    Go Panthers go!!!

I agree. Ottawa made a sweet deal on his contract. Hi will be paid big $$$ if and only if he wins. Again good move.

I wouldn't get too excited over this...

If the Sens prosper from it, then great. But Hasek has seen his best years already.

I don't see how it could possibly be a bad move though. Nobody has addressed that side of it yet.

Obviously they are a better team with him in the line-up and at a cheaper price then Lalime, if I am not mistaken.

It's hard to beat a multiple Vezina trophy winner in the line-up. And at 39, Belfour showed what an old guy can do for a semi-skilled team. Hasek also won a Cup with Detroit. He plays with passion and skill, and hopefully he can play at a high level and stay healthy.

Also the move silences some critics that felt Lalime was the reason that Sens didn't advance last year. Sure he let in a couple of soft goals, especially in game 7, but the Sens couldn't score on Belfour, who played outstanding.

This should be an exciting season in any event.
It could be that the purpose of your life is only to serve as a warning to others.
