I think I hate Facebook.
I don't have an account, but the wife does so I see all the stuff on it and I believe I actually hate Facebook. I want to rant, but I'll keep it at that. I hope the servers all crash beyond repair.

I was anti-fb early on...
But I love that you can at least say hi to people from way back in the day.

it has its drawbacks, but its great for keeping in touch with people who are a long way away. I went to school in Victoria, and met a lot of people while in europe for 3 months, and its proving to be a great, free way to keep in touch with all of them.

And how much does sending an email cost?

You can't search an email address. If you've lost touch it's a great way to find people again. it's too bad that a lot of people are almost addicted to it, but some would say the same about this site.

facebook is a great way to keep in touch with people you normally wouldn't email or call. its great for keeping in touch with over seas relatives and friends as well. IF you can use it without being on it 24/7 you can get a lot of utility out of the site. the people 1000+ friends and 10,000 plus pictures are the ones that need help.

It was for that reason I deleted my account several months ago. I got tired of people asking me to be "my friend". If I haven't spoken to you in twenty years, perhaps it is because we no longer have anything in common. It boggles my mind that some people have a need to constantly tell others what they are doing every moment.
I remember a time when I got an e-mail from someone in Europe...just because he liked my last name.

i remember when myspace first came out, it was way cooler than fakebook ever will be. at least on myspace you could change the background, play music, put a radio channel and pimp your page. i ran an animated gif of the matrix code as my background. it was sweet.

it got a little crazy with viruses and stuff because hackers learned how to hack into pple's accounts. i'm just saying the idea of creating your own profile page was more appealing to artistic pple like me than the white prison cell walls of facebook. myspace was intended for music artists anyway.

I use facebook to keep in touch with family/mates in Europe, Oz, etc. I probably go on it once a week or so.
I like it, I chat in real time sometimes, play scrabble with people, like seeing photos of what people are up to etc. I'm certainly not in love with it but it is useful...I certainly don't hate it or see it as "evil"
It is what it is. Take it or leave it

I find Facebook useful and amusing. It keeps me in touch with friends - real friends, and allows us all to share photos, admittedly in reduced size, that are of interest to us. Simple email does not do all of this.
By the way, I'm colourless. Would Kramer have been white with his bro?Proud member of the 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 Ottawa Golf Ryder Cup teams.

How you can develop hatred for a web site, I'm really not sure. If you don't like it, don't go there!
I find it entertaining to get through the day. It's a great way to share news stories, arrange parties or events, get in touch with old friends etc.
Some people spend way too much time on the site, but I find it has it's uses for me anyways.
EDIT: Oops I guess I bumped up an old thread. Really not sure how I found this, anyways.

Myspace was alright because I could find new music, but I see too many peers on facebook "creeping" people. That reason will keep me away from FB.

Then and Now...
Used to have a Facebook account and limited it to about 25-30 "friends". Then one day a "friend" posted the grossest picture (I nearly puked) ever and I said enough is enough and pulled out. Was also getting fed up with some of the comments from "friends" supposedly mature kids. Got pressure from my wife and kids to at least keep an account for sharing picutres and have done so, under my dog's name. Works well. Keep in touch with others by internet but don't have the hassle of having the class idiot from 1969 looking me up and wanting to be my "friend". It is a pretty interesting study though on what people you thought you knew will share with total strangers.

facebook is my little black book without the phone numbers.
which makes it more of a 'wish list'.You only get out of something what you put into it

It's great for keeping up with friends/family out of town. Like a poster above mentioned, I just changed my name on it. Being a teacher I was having students ask if I was on and trying to add me. Don't use the site for more that that though.
