Ballack has been terrible, he is no loss. For a change, the German team is loaded with young talent, guys who have played really well on the under 21 circuit internationally. Ozil and Mueller could be stars in this tournament if they get a chance to play.

in the 86th minute vs Uruguay, Thierry Henri appeals to the ref for a hand ball in the penalty area.

    oh the irony.

The Nigerian goalie just won first round MVP. WOW!

And damn England, that's the first one I've gotten wrong on proline. Stupid keeper.

England should have been able to score more. Every chance in the second half was right in the chest of Howard. He hardly had to move.

That was the most impressive play I have seen of Germany in a long time. And I am a huge German fan.

    WooHoo.

One game. That said, the ball is definitely affecting the more skilled teams in the World Cup. Free kicks, corners, crosses, long passes...hard to do anything when you can't control the ball.

Ivory Coast is my pick. Gotta love Drogba.

There was a great article in SI on him last month, it's too bad there isn't more pro athletes like him.

I still have no clue to why they would change the ball. Who wants a light soccer ball when you've grown up using a normal one. Just seems beyond stupid.

I wonder what it feels like to lose to the watch makers?

The Germans have been using the ball in the bundesliga all season so anyone playing in that league should be used to it

I am not a fan of Drogba. If you watch the EPL week in week out its hard to like him IMO. Outrageous reputation for diving and going to ground very easily.

In all honesty the Ivory Coast have absolutely no chance...sorry

Don't be sorry, I don't follow soccer at all, the only reason I'm pulling for Ivory Coast is I read a story about Drogba in last month's SI, which painted a pretty positive picture of him.

Greece is celebrating like crazy. A little perspective people, you beat a squad that was a man down, you still suck. Argentina, even if they play all their subs, will destroy them.

This is how I felt after the game:

-denial, i must be having a bad dream, this isn't happening....
-shock, oh my god we just lost to a bunch of scrubs.
    -acceptance, we suck!
-anger, let's unleash hell on Honduras and Chile!

dont forget that Greece play a super-boring defensive 11 men in the box style that earned them a Euro championship in 2004. All they need is one fluke goal and they can beat anybody.

yes, Germany looked great in their opening game and also, Ahem...Holland

I think France were always going to struggle this time round.

England 'should' pick up 3 comfortable points tomorrow and so will Germany I suspect. I predict (or hope) for a USA/Slovenia draw.
