Paintfill and Adding Weight

As many of you know, I'm going to be re-doing the paintfill on my Scotty. It's a Studio Stainless Laguna 2.5. Looking for the best brand of paint to use on this type of head. And should I be adding a final clear coat application to ensure a long lasting finish?

Also, I've added leadtape to the cavity of the putter. But wanting to fill it in with a new paint colour, I'm looking for alternatives to keep the headweight where it is. Lead powder down the shaft is best? If so, does the head have to come off or can it be added from the buttend? Any help would be appreciated.

Enamel paints will tend to hold up the best on steel.

Generally putters don't have a clearcoat on them because unless it is super hard it will chip/flake and end up looking like ass pretty quickly.

How much weight have you added? A tip weight might do it, but would require disassembling the club so lead/tungsten powder would be your other option. One thing to note is that the feel will be somewhat different than what you have now.

There's a few strips in the cavity. I haven't weighed the total of them though. How different in feel are we talking about?

Hard to say. In addition to the weight being higher, I have found that putting stuff in the cavity also changes the sound when contact is made. This is often perceived as feel.

Is there any engraving in cavity? If not you could just put the lead tape back in.

There is engraving in the cavity, which I want to paint, so I don't want to put the tape back in.

I like using the testor's model paint which gives you tons of options for colors.

You can buy a pencil tip applicator at Michaels to fill in the paint but I never used one.

As for weighting, and this is how I have done it, to not effect the feel.

Use lead tape on the sole of the putter.

Start by adding tape on and along the length of the sole. start with the back of the sole first then move forward towards the face.

Once you have the weighting where you want it smooth it down with an eraser. It makes the lead tape blend in really smoothly.

It looks very very clean and it does not catch.

You can take the tape off any time but it looks very clean when on.

Some good advice for adding weight, but I plan on re-doing the paintfill on the sole. So unless I want to keep the tape to the outside and end up wrapping it up onto the face and bumpers of the putter, I think the tip weight/lead powder is going to be my best option.

Hopefully going to get started on this tomorrow night. Does anyone know the best way to remove lead tape residue from a putter head? I had some lead tape in the cavity of my Laguna and want to remove the residue before I start the paintfill process.

Thanks for the offer. I'm on nights, so I'll probably be sleeping most of the day. I plan on hitting up a hobby shop before work to grab some paint. Will pick up some fluid, acetone or Goo Gone at Walmart or CT as well.
