CIS Hockey
How many here are CIS hockey fans? For a country that LOVES hockey, why is there not the same interest as America (and Canada) have for their NCAA football?
Why do people not follow it? Its not a difficult ticket to get and the games are always great to watch! Its seems like the perfect team to be a fan of!!

I agree it's weird. A high percentage of the guys at the CIS level have played major junior hockey at some point so the quality of hockey is very good. The guys are a little older(relative to most university aged students) for the most part because they have played junior hockey for several years. I go to Carleton and really enjoy going to their games...quality hockey IMO. Definitely underrated or undervalued or something because it doesn't seem to get the attention it deserves....especially in a hockey town.

i think the reason for the difference between CIS and NCAA is that most people in Canada feel very minimal allegience to their alma mater, whereas in the States it becomes a point of pride...a lifetime identity. To most Canadians, their school is just their school, nothing more. just a much different mentality.

I think the difference is that we have junior hockey, which regularly draws crowds in the 5000-10000 range. And like NCAA hockey, junior hockey is where the pro prospects play.

So why don't we sell out junior hockey games all the time?
I really think having a weekly "feature" game a week on primetime tv would really help. I know I wild love to see a Calgary vs Vancouver chl game. I think the league has to do a much better national advertising job. Make Friday night be the "hockey night in Canada" for chl hockey where they feature a massive rivalry game from across Canada.

Very easy answer. Long season vs. short season. NCAA means something, every game. CIS and NHL, freakin way too long.

also, here there's hockey at every turn. As great as hockey is, you can get too much of it.

As a university student, I loved those collegiate games. The rivalry was great. The competition fierce. The action fast paced. What's not to like? I still watch a game or two on the tube, but it's not as much fun as watching these students give their all for their teams and their schools.
