Lucy vs. Charlie Brown

crosby vs. datsyuk
really, any argument that says one guy from one era is better than one guy from another ear. It's near impossible to compare eras.I got a fever. And the only prescription is more golf equipment.

You can always argue both sides of Gretzky vs. Lemieux (not that I think it's even close) or Jordan vs. Magic (again, not close but some try). The reason you can make arguments is because their careers are over. Nothing more can happen to influence the argument.
To compare Crosby and Ovechkin right now is pointless. Ovie could go on and win three Cups and eight scoring titles, and Crosby could destroy his ACL and never play again. Basically, one would be predicting success with absolutely no formula behind the calculations.
So like I said, pointless.

OK, you guys say that that it isn't close between Gretzky and Lemieux yet no one said who is better.....I don't think it is close either and for the record I see #99 as the best there was, and ever will be.

- Gretzky, no contest, no argument
- Federer, no contest, no arguement
- I agree that it is hard to compare across eras but I think that Tiger is better right now compared to a 34 year old Jack
- Jordan is the best that I've ever seen but Wilt the Stilt needs to be in this conversation
- Pele is God, Maradonna is a Saint
- Bonds No asterix - he is the homerun leader in the steroid era
- By the letter of the law the Pats were caught - once
- No, wrestling is not fixed - they freely admit that it is scripted

With Lemieux and Gretzky, the debate usually starts with a "what if..". If Mario was healthy, he could have been A LOT closer to Wayne's records. I believe Mario had more skill than Gretzky and was much better to watch. I do have to agree that numbers do not lie, however..
My name is Paul. And I'm a golfaholic.

Agree with Donny...there isn't really a Pele vs Maradona debate for soccer. There's about 10 other names you can easily ad to the list of potentially the best ever, but for the most part, nobody seems to really care. There are so many people that play the game that there's a new player every year that takes the world by storm and puts himself among the greats, only to be dethroned in a year or two.

I think soccer fans are just more appreciative of the moment and less judgemental of the past vs. present.
Gretzky is by far and away the best ever. Lemieux, healthy, couldn't touch Gretz's single season records. Sheesh, can't believe anyone can see it any other way.Donny Vantage NFL Guru, since 1974

I always try & make the following argument, which tends to anger many out there. More people play basketball globally than hockey, golf and tennis combined. That's why I say Jordan is the greatest. He had to be greater than millions (maybe hundreds of millions) more players than Federer did. You will notice I kept soccer out of it.

If we take in to consideration that early in his career Jack played with an inferior ball that would go out of round extremely quickly, many of those second place finishes in Majors would be wins... hmm.

Tiger VS Jack..................
to me this argument is always between the young and older.....people who grew up with Jack VS people in the Tiger era.....they both have done amazing things durring the time they played!
but Tiger is better!!!!!!!!!!
