Emerald Links?
There seems to be a lot of chatter on this lately. Does anyone have any knowledge of what the issue is at Emerald Links. It is disappointing that some of the course in the South West have been let go a little (e.g. Stonebridge and by the sounds of it Emerald Links). I was just wondering if anyone who plays E.L. often can shed some light on some of the issues?

I played East-West nines and everything looks as always... I have not played the south recently but today the course was packed so I did not see sad faces.
I guess it is the same as other course dealing with the weather issues.
So far, I have played at:
- Stonebridge
- Emerald Links
- Anderson Links
- Chateau Cartier
- Greensmere
- Mont Cascades
- Gen Mar
All of them were not in "pristine" condition but very playable. So I guess enjoy what you have... the season will be over soon (August is gone).

Emerald Links had a terrible spring and did not recover. I have played the course on three occassions and have decided that was enough. I may give it a chance next year, however there are many other options at more competitive price points. Fact is the greens are the worst of the 15 courses I have played this spring and the tee boxes are in a similar state. The fairways are decent, however you can not justify charing almost $60 for a course in that condition.

I will continue to play at Carleton G&YC. As for courses which I have played this summer that I consider to be in better condition:
Carleton
Rideau View
Renfrew
Whitetail
Smugglers Glen
Loyalist
St. Lawrence
Hunt Club
Upper Canada
With the exception of the Hunt, each of these courses also cost me less to play. Not sure how much you golf, but Emerald Links is the worst conditioned course in our area for the price they charge.

Carleton, Rideauview and Hunt Club are all private clubs. Every other course on your list is more that an hour's drive from Ottawa, so they are not exactly "in our area". If any of them had EL's location I can almost guarantee they would be charging more than $60 for a weekend round.
Play where you want, but you're not really making a fair comparison.

Thanks - I'll give a try to Loch March (working at Kanata) too far from the other one.

Agreed. Loch March is wonderful. I also enjoyed the Brockville Country Club. Great track and nice greens.

I agree with the previous statements regarding Emerald Links, too high a green fee for such a chewed up course this year.
Don't discount a trip to Outaouais, best greens I've ever played...hard, fast and true.
I played Greensmere a few weeks ago, and was impressed with the conditions there. Renfrew's good too.
I haven't played Loch March in a year or two, I wasn't impressed with their conditions the last time out, especially for their green fees.

Have played--Arnprior-Calabogie-Nations-Casselview-Canadian-Outaouis-Cloverdale---all well worth the money spent ! The mentioned courses in bad shape---well what do you expect---have NEVER seen an abundance oif maintenance...Hell-- even BEARBROOK is in decent shape up until last Friday---a few of the greens burnt real fast---3 days
Sure there's a recession but have you noticed the courses charging the fair price are the ones that are busy Woder what will happen to prices next yearDoes the 2nd hole-n-one come easier ?
