Etiquette - Searching for lost ball.

    This really happened.

In the recent OVGA Match Play Qualifying round at Mississppi our threesome arrived at the 5th tee, looked down the fairway which doglegs slightly to the right, and saw no-one. My fellow competitor then hit his tee shot and then I hit mine. As I looked up to follow the ball it was heading straight for one of the golfers ahead who had just appeared from being out of sight to the right. It narrowly missed him and really shook up our group and obviously the person who was almost hit.

We apologized and they good naturedly indicated that a round of drinks would help ease the pain.

The moral of the story is to leave a bag visible to the group behind so that they do not hit into you, inadvertently. It is another act of consideration that may prevent a serious accident.

That, or have one of the foursome hold back visibly in the fairway until he has hit his second shot.

    Did you buy the round?
I've spent most of my life golfing .... the rest I've just wasted"

No, but I hosted the player and his wife/caddy at my club last week.
