Golf Fundraiser Sept 14th 2009..Cancer
On September 14th we are "Golfing for Ben" at the Canadian Golf and Country Club in Ottawa. We invite you to join us in our fundraiser. .
Ben's story….
Imagine that you are a 12 years old, your life is hockey, suddenly your life is in danger...to save your life means giving up one of your legs.
Benjamin Delaney was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma Cancer in the fall of 2008, the same cancer that caused Terry Fox his life. This cancer attacked Ben's entire knee up to his thighbone. After three months of chemotherapy, Ben had rotation plaxi surgery which turned his ankle into his new knee joint to allow him better mobility into the prosthetic leg that will allow him to one day enjoy sports again. Essentially, his foot is reattached backwards at the knee. He must learn to walk all over again at the age of 12.
Ben continued an additional four months of chemotherapy treatment to ensure that no loose cells were missed during surgery. The Delaney family spent more time at CHEO than at home during the 7 month treatment.
Ben is a very athletic child with a great sense of humour…. His love of sports, particularly hockey is what will allow him to thrive with his new prosthetic leg. It is still a long road ahead with lots of physiotherapy but he is getting there and doing well.
It is for people just like Ben that Terry Fox ran his marathon of hope.
It has been a difficult year for the Delaney family who have been separated for the seven months while one parent has been at the hospital and the other at home taking care of their daughter. Ben's Miracle wish was so modest (he requested a Senators Room Makeover - this was aired on CJOH). Friends and family want to raise enough funds to send the Delaney family on a very much-deserved family vacation. Join us in making this a reality!
Ben's story has been so touching that he was invited to join the Ottawa Senators in their locker room where he received signed memorabilia and got to meet his favourite celebraties. His story has been aired on the Annual CHEO Telethon as a highlight story (on the CJOH)....his pictures have been in local newspapers with his favourite Senator Team Players etc.
We invite you to join us in golfing towards this great fundraiser that will truly help a family.
If you would join us as a sponsor for this event, there are sponsor packages as low as $50.00. By being a sponsor in this event you will be promoting your company to a group of people who are very loyal to its sponsors, as well as to the many area professionals who will be participating at the Outing itself.
We are anticipating a highly successful and well-attended Outing. We are offering various levels of sponsorships. Please see the attached sponsor form for more information.
We thank you in advance for your support for this cause that is so dear to our hearts!
Please forward on to others who enjoy golfing!
I hope you will join us in making this event a success!
