    Should be an easy one...

    Two balls lie in the fairway and are next to each other and are so close that it makes it impossible for yourself to hit your ball without hitting your fellow competitor's ball as well. What's the proper thing to do?

    What if the same situation happens in a hazard? (bunker or water hazard)

    I believe the first thing you have to do is determine which ball is closest to the hole in order to determine the order of play. Once the order of play has been decided, the ball being played second is lifted and its position is marked. Once the first ball is played, the ball that was lifted is replaced and its original lie is recreated (if necessary).

    The procedure is the same in a hazard. And don't forget that you're not allowed to clean your ball when it is lifted outside of the green.

    Not in a hazard:
    The player who is to play first may have the other ball lifted.
    The player who is not to play first may not lift his ball without being asked to do so.

    The ball that has been lifted must be replaced.
    If the lie has been altered, the ball must be placed in the nearest lie most similar to the original lie that is not more than one club-length from the original lie, not nearer the hole and not in a hazard;

    In a hazard:
    The ball closest to the hole is marked and the other ball is played.
    Any question of identification will be answered by idtentifying the ball that has been played from hazard.
    The ball that has been lifted must be replaced.

    In a water hazard, the ball must be placed in the hazard in the nearest lie most similar to the original lie that is not more than one club-length from the original lie.

    In a bunker, the original lie must be re-created as nearly as possible and the ball must be placed in that lie.
