    Dainage ditch

Anderson Links hole #5 has an unmarked drainage ditch that crosses the fairway shy of the green. My ball was just on the edge of the ditch. Possible to take a shot. If the water is high due to rain, can one take relief under casual water rule?

    Thanks in advance.

Decision 26/3 says that although it is unmarked it should be treated as a WH.
In which case you would have to determine where the natural margin was.
Only if the water overlowed that margin could you treat it as casual water.

Nothing p's me off more than when a committee fails to do their job properly.

Wait till your playing matchplay , and when your opponent grounds his club in that drain , claim the hole ......and go to the committee armed with a copy of Decision 26-3 and a list of prohibited actions when in a hazard 13-4 which confirms you won the hole ..

Or use rule 3-3 in strokeplay to force them into action ...

I agree Kiwi but they will likely look at him like some kind of weirdo, most courses in this area will not care.

Care or not , with rules in black and white in front of them , they cannot award the hole to his opponent ....quote rule 33-1 ......

Its amazing how embarrassment can force change ....

You really have NO idea what the game is like in this part of the world, do you?

Who's this "they" you keep talking about?? Anderson Links is a public course without members. Such courses are very common over here, and courses without members don't have a "committee" to be embarrassed or to award anything to anybody. You're complaining about something that doesn't exist.

The closest thing to a "committee" at Anderson Links is the course owner, and I'm pretty sure he couldn't care less who won the match or what rules you choose to play by.

The original poster had a rules question, and AAA answered it. There is really nothing else to say on the matter.

haha nah , just winding you up

I have the misfortune of having a home course who's committee are as good as useless ....and use the same line to wind them up lol ...works a treat

Oddly enough its over the exact same issue , a drainage ditch they play as thru the green .....as well as a concrete section they have declared integral ....and take unplayables from .....frustrates the crapola out of me lol

Guess Ive been spoiled having more than 30 quality courses withen an hrs drive ...with 2 more in construction

We have no quality courses here at all. You are indeed fortunate.

I find that hard to believe .......I am aware of the weather issues you guys have .....
Ive played with a lot of Canadian tourists over here , they cant get over the fact that my home club has only been closed to weather 3 times in the last 10 yrs ....but Id rate it a goat track compared to nearly all the other courses handy to here ....

Just a bit of sarcasm. Seemed to me that's where this was going so I thought I'd just help it along.

Anyway we are getting off topic.
