What's the Average Price for a Will?
Getting my Will done up and I was wondering what the going price is these days?
Some people are like Slinkies... they're really good for nothing, ... but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs...

I think there was a thread on this a few months back. $400-$500 seems to come to mind.
I got a fever. And the only prescription is more golf equipment.

I'll do it for free if you cut me in for half. I may or may not have any legal training.

I've always considered you one of my close friends, indeed, almost family, Chris. How's that golf Yoga coming along?
You can always do the will yourself.Andrew

Will's are free if you do your own (even in Ontario). Have it witnessed by two independent parties to rid discrepancies and make sure to cover off EVERYTHING you are entitling (house, cars, jewelry, contents of house, life insurance(s), RRSP,. You don't need a lawyer or notory. You can pick up a free will from most financial institutions for free as well.
Just make sure to sign it. My dad passed in February. His will is outstanding and straight forward. Hey buddy, maybe sign the damn thing?

Some of the homemade wills have not stood up well in court and they are not bullet proof. Going to a lawyer will cost around $500-700 in Ottawa but at least things will be done right with no loop holes. You can always go outside the city, I know in Pembroke it is about $300 cheaper than here in Ottawa.

I used one of the software kits. Just followed the instructions and it was easy. As long as you are not setting up any trusts or doing anything too complicated, its pretty straightforward.
If you're going beyond the "ordinary" and/or anticipate possible legal challenges to it (i.e., you've been married more than once), then you should probably see a lawyer first if for no other reason than to get good advice.
