    New Tree ????

Okay so we were playing Pineview this evening and guess what they were doing. The were planting new trees. Now these are not those little 2 foot trees, these were actually 20 - 30 feet high trees. Now these trees were not there when we started and the dirt/ground around the base is still fresh and uncut grass at the base as well.

What would the ruling be if you hit your ball into the broken up dirt?
    Or
What would the ruling be if you hit your ball to the base of the tree in the uncut long stomped down grass?

Is it considered ground under repair, with a free drop within 2 clubs, or play it as it lies ?

    Thanks.

To answer your question Tim, pineview rented a tree mover and regarding the base of the trees, it was top soil. I would assume for now, it would be ground under repair, but it wont take long for the grass to grow. It was an amazing thing to watch that machine work.

Hmmmm... so if they were not new trees, still considered Ground Under Repair ?

I was buried in the grass at the base of one of these that is why I am curioius. I was going to play it as it lies, but the other told me to play it as GUR.

But yes amazing to watch them put those trees down and in.

You don't get a free drop within 2 clubs from GUR.

You should know better. You've got your L2.

GUR/IO etc. Nearest point of relief plus upto 1 cl.

NPR could be anything from 3" upto 4' and must be full relief

I was just mentioning a simple way to remember how many clublengths one would use to measure with, not to describe the entire proeedure for taking relief. Sorry if that was not clear.

I have doubt about the area being GUR , unless defined as such by the committee , tempory local rule

And let us not forget , NPR - drop withen a clublength of , and the ball can roll 2 more clublenghts from the spot the ball first struck the ground
