buying new irons??
I'm looking to buy a new set of irons, right now I'm using some ping knock offs Tour Model ll or lll's I believe..I've lost a few over the last few seasons so its a real mish mash of clubs. I've started to play quite a bit this yr and am scoring not bad, so I figure it's time to upgrade. I really have no idea where to start, any recommendations or tips for buying a new set would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Go to GolfTown, try as many different sets in your price range as you can, and pick the one you like best. Then, if you're patient, wait until somebody posts a set of them up in the Classifieds section on this site and get a big discount off the retail price

Doubt it,... where do you thinks some of these "Great Deals" come from!!! hard to sell "New" clubs with lots of scuff marks!!!!
Forget your opponents; always play against par. And if that does not work, carry an eraser.

Its funny how these threads always get to a point where the original poster's request is totally forgotten in the discussion.
yesnicky (if you're still here), the first step in buying new irons is figuring out what is best for your needs and your swing. You really haven't given us much information, but from your post it sounds like you are a relative beginner that is just beginning to take a serious interest in the game. If that is the case, a forgiving, game-improvement style of irons would probably suit you the best.
If you are on a budget, then the best course of action is probably to pick up an inexpensive used set for around $200 and spending your savings on lessons. You can then sell your set and upgrade in a few years as you improve.
If you want something shiny and new right now, then the advice to go to GolfTown and try everything is good. You should also check out Golfworks on Industrial and St. Laurent, and a custom clubfitter like Artisan Golf wouldn't be a bad idea either. All of these places offer clubfitting sessions in order to analyse your swing and make the appropriate recommendations, and sometimes the cost of the clubfitting session will be waived if you buy a set from them.
And spending $$$ on lessons is always a good investment, regardless of what irons you end up buying. Good luck in your search.

I've been playing for a while but for some reason haven't bought a decent set of clubs. As I said before I'm presently using tour model lll's and have had them for probably 5 yrs. The last few yrs I didn't play too much but this yr I get out about once a week. I'm consistently in the low 80's and have cracked it a few times. I'm taking drive4shows taylormade r7 draw irons off his hands. I've read they may be more suitable for higher handicappers but I've scored fairly well with what I have and figure these can only improve my game. I usually hit a fade even with my TM r5 draw driver so I'm assuming these irons will go straight (maybe slight draw). Anyway I'll keep you updated on how they work out for me.
