    Where does Kobe rank now?

Assuming they win the title, would Kobe be in the top 5 all-time NBA players? I guess for my generation, he'd be number 2 after Jordan, way after Jordan. But I only go back to the late 80's/early 90's. Bird, Magic? I think Kobe is better then both personally. BIG character issue of course, but just concentrating on his basketball skill.

    you are missing a few

    wilt, kareem, Oscar, the doctor

Kobe is great, no doubt one of the best, and really, until he finishes it is impossible to tell, but the guys i mention certainly are fantastic.

Well, firsdt of all he hasn't won yet. I think they will prevail at home in Game 6, but thats yet to be determined. After that, he will have 4 rings, 3 with Shaq and 1 without, along with a loss in the finals. As I'm roughly the same age as you I would rank him up there but throughout the 80's and 90's there has been a myriad of awesome players. Consider this list just to name a few:

JORDAN ( And then everyone else a distant way behind of course )
    Malone
    Shaquille Oneal
    Barkley
    Stockton
    Drexler
    Bird
    Magic
    Hakeem Olajuwon
    Tim Duncan
    David Robinson

I could go on all day. We, those watching sports or growing up in the 80's and 90's have been fortunate to see the best athlets in every sport. Gretzky & Lemieux, Jerry Rice and Joe Montana, Maradona and Ronaldo ( Pele was just before my time ), MIke Tyson ( before he went psycho), Jordan, Magic and Bird, Tiger Woods. oger Federer, Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi. The list is insane for almost every sport.

Back to the topic at hand, if Kobe wins a 4th , which I think he will, he definitely has to rank up there for sure! Top 5 no doubt for our generation.

Hmmm, forgot about the quiet Tim Duncan. He's gotta be up there too, actually right up there with Kobe.....

You're right about all the greats. Totally amazing sports generation!

Although I personally can't stand Duncan as he is boring as hell to watch, he definitely deserves some props.

    Jordan
    Dr. J
    Kareem
    Shaq
    Bird
    Russel
    Wilt
    Oscar
    Magic
    Olajuwon

Just remember, whenever you put Kobe on that list... lebron is a better player and there isn't a single GM in the league that would take kobe over lebron in a straight up pick

If they were both the same age, it would be pretty damn close. A lot of GMs would take Kobe.

Yeah, I am pretty sure every GM would still take Lebron even if Kobe wasn't the same age. Kobe is an all-time player, but Lebron has no ceiling. He has the potential to be the best player in the history of the game, and Kobe was never thought of in that way.

Kobe is one of the greatest ever. Jordan is the greatest ever. Bird & Magic are in my top 5. I loved Isiah Thomas, and the backcourt duo of Isiah Thomas and Joe Dumars had to be one of the best ever. Even though they were Jordan's rivals. David Robinson was also one of my favourites. I cetainly remember Kareem too. don't know what I've added to the topic.

As much BS as Shaq talks yes he was a monster of his generation but never won without kobe. KJobe can be mentioned amongst the Jordan's/Bird/Wilt/Magic/Nate Robinson which were all great players of there generation.

I was just gonna say that, although he did have a pretty good player there too in Dwayne Wade!

True, but name a player who has singlehandedly won a championship. It doesn't happen. As much as one great player can dominate a game, a successful team needs, well, a successful team. That's why the Lakers won this year, and Lebron got to watch from home.

exactly, all great teams have more than one

    lakers now, kobe and gausol
lakers just before, kobe and shaq
    lakers 80s, magic, kareem
lakers 70s, oscar and kareem ( not kareem then though, len i think)
    boston, bird, mchale
    chicago, jordan pippen
    new york, Dr.j and moses

looking at this now man the lakers are soooo good

but i am sure i am missing many more, point is, one man does not win as stated , it takes more
