Club to use for measuring
The other day one of the guys took relief from the cartpath and went back away from the green and determined where his nearest point of relief would be. He then dropped and the ball rolled further away from the green and my question is what club to use to measure if it's more than 2 club lengths. If he used the pitching wedge he had in his hand it's outside 2 cl's but if he used a driver it would be less than 2 cl's. As he didn't actually measure using any club what would the ruling be??? If he had no club out of his bag at the time what would the ruling be as to the club to be used???

This has been debated many times in other forums as there is no specific decision which covers the situation.
There doesn't seem to be a clear concensus that I have been able to determine.
If I were to challenge a player that he may not have dropped correctly, then providing in his 'demonstration' he used the same club to measure the 1cl from the npr to measure the 2cl roll, I would accept that.

It is an interesting one AAA and I have posted it on another forum and the concensus is not black and white. I also sent it off to the RCGA and here is what I got back.
-----------------------
Their reply was:
If the Rules official is asked to make a ruling on such a situation, he will identify a club in the player's bag that makes the initial drop a correct drop, ie, landed within one of that club's length, and then use that same club to determine whether the ball has rolled more than two club lengths.
-------------------
Then I asked:
I understand what you are saying but as an official do I take the longest club or the shortest club as both of those in this case would be acceptable in determining the nearest point of relief as where the ball was dropped was probably only a matter of inches from that point.
Answer back:
Then, in the case you have described, the player would have the option of using any club to determine if the ball had rolled more than two club lengths.
