Any Hylands Members?
I'm newish to Ottawa and looking for a course/club to join. I've heard some really good things about Hylands, but all of it from non-members.
I'm wondering if there are any members here who have a thing or two to say?
Thanks,
Cheers!

Great deal for the price - crse is good shape this yr - especially the greens. The fairways suffered some winter burn in places. I've been a member for yrs ......... for active military pers you can't go wrong.

Is Hylands a private club for military or ex. military personel or can anyone join?I herd they were recruiting non military but you have to be sponsored by an active member. Is this right?

Gary,
I played a match against 2 gents that were members at the Highlands (Dewsweeper & Demonswing) and they were saying the course (except some fairways) was in great shape and that it was a great place to play.

Marc, anyone can be a member at Hylands. Military members have priority, but they also have a waiting list for non-military. They actually cleared out the waiting list this winter and were accepting applications from people who weren't on the wait list as well.
I'm not a member Gary, but I have played there quite a bit the past few years. The courses are both usually in exceptional shape, especially the greens. The only downside with Hylands is that there are (what I've been told by a member) 1800 members for a 36 hole facility. That's an awful lot, I think most private clubs try to keep it in the 4-500 members per 18 holes range. It makes it tough to get a specific tee time you're looking for, especially in the prime morning hours. My friends there play almost exclusively in the afternoons, so it works for them, but it's a big issue for other people I know there.

Wow, didn't know it was possible for civilians to get a membership. Any idea what the costs are????

I think there's a $1500 initiation fee (they call it an entry fee) as well:

Thanks for the info everyone.
Yeah, the price cannot be beat in this area - that's for sure.
The drawback is, as spackler mentioned, the large number of members: 1500, according to their website.
Thanks again,
Cheers!
