Ball Positioning For Putter
After all these years of golfing I've never actually been taught or have heard about the proper (if there is one) ball positon when your using your putter. Is it more of a feel thing? Does it vary depending on the length of the putt?
Anything will help!
Thanks,
Jordan

Most schools of thought is that the leading edge of the putter is placed in the center of your stance (absolute bottom of your swing arc) and the ball just ahead, regardless of the length of the putter shaft. This give you the very slightest upward contact on the ball to get it rolling (not skipping). With the loft built into the putterhead (anywhere from 2-5 degrees), the ball should start rolling almost immediately.
From what I've read and heard so far, the worst thing you could do is place the ball behind the bottom of your swing arc. This generates a downward impact, causing backspin, which will affect your distance.
