In the market for a new Lawn Mower - Lookng for recommendations

Well, it is time to retire the CT mower and buy a new one. Wanted to get some opinions on what people liked. From what I have seen, I know that:

    - I want a gas mower
    - I want Push start/no choke-no prime
    - I want mulch/bag/side discharge 3 in 1
    - I am not sure what the advantage of a high wheel mower is
    - I am not sure if I want self propelled

I have a typical suburban back yard with a slope in the back which is a bit tough to cut with the old mower.

I am anal about lawns and such and want a good unit but do not want to break the bank.

    What do you think?

got mine at Sears. So far no problems. They have lots of models that go on sale quite often.
I got a fever. And the only prescription is more golf equipment.

Got mine at Home Depot 3 years ago... has a great 6.5 HP Briggs & Stratton engine. I just took it out of the tool shed today and it started first pull (as it does all the time).... it is a 3 in 1 but not with the push start (expensive for nothing)....

Rez, I understand that the bigger wheels make it easier to push....

Get a Toro or a Honda. Pricier than Craftsman and the like.

If you can afford a honda, buy one. I had a 14 year old one that started on the first pull EVERYTIME. If fact, I included it in negotiating the sale of our old house saying I will throw in the mower and if the lawnmower starts on the first pull then we go with our price. It started.

That being said, I now have a craftsman (can't afford another honda) and it has done it's job. Can't beat Sear's warranty either.

Surpirsed you can even let yourself golf then with the amount of big chunky divots you take! Must bring a tear to the your eye every time you tee it up, or is that chunk it up!

I recently bought a Poulan Pro rear drive mower with a 160cc Honda engine from Real Canadian Superstore. It was just under $400....I bought mine during their save on taxes (PST and GST) event. I believe that this mower is also available at Costco for $399. A Poulan Pro push mower with a 160cc Honda engine is priced at $299 at Costco....suppose to be very popular. Both Poulan Pro are rear baggers though.

Not too worried, you'll probably hit the ground first and take most of the speed off that kick. You might get my shoes dirty with the divot, but that would be the worst of it I expect.

FYI the Honda engine on the Sears unit is not the same one you get with a Honda mower. That being said unless you have plans on going into the landscaping business both choices you have mentioned should last for decades with minimal maintenance.

They are fine for a small yard but generally not as powerful as a gas mower. They are basically maintenance-free though, and cheaper than a gas mower in the long run (though you pay a lot more for cordless).

I live in the suburbs and cut my grass regularly, so an electric works just fine. When I lived in the country, my electric mower was a little underpowered (the grass is always greener over the septic tank)!

    Damned. You got me there.

No problems Lance. My personal take on electric is that I don't like cords. I understand they are generally not as powerful as gas. And for the cordless ones, I am not sure what batteried cost, but I would not want to replace dead batteries.
