Grip Install - Air Compressor
So I've been installing grips using an air compressor for a few years now and I have never had a problem. I just changed my grips and the upper protion of the grip is twisting. The grip is .580 and the shafts are .600, so in theory in should be a tight fit. Any one who installs grips with air ever had this happened and have a solution besides the obvious one of regripping using tape and solvent?

I don't use air but I'm pretty sure I've read that the solution for this is simply to put some masking tape on the club to increase the diameter.
I've even seen this issue with tape/solvent on some shafts that have a small diameter. Not fat anymore. Need to get better at golf now!

I think you'll find it says the shaft is .600 and the grip is .580! lol
I use air too, but always still wrap tape on the shaft and use a touch of solvent. Never had one twist yet.
Just as a side note....Invest in and wear some earplugs if your trying to blow a very old grip off. I had an old ping grip 'pop' the other day and my bloody ears are still ringing!

Defective (out spec) grip perhaps?

That's what I was thinking too, but I'm not usre on how to find out to be able to take them back. They're Sharpro's that I got on sale at GW's. I've used those grips before with out a problem but I'd like to confirm there size because I know GW's doesn't believe in the air installation and will blame that instead of the grip itself.

Did you use solvent to get it going?

I dip the end of the grip in solvent to help get it over the endof the shaft.

Still loose after evaporation?

Yup still loose. It's fine throughout the grip, but at the top there is a 3 inch section of cord and this part twists around. I'm going to try an extra wrap of masking tape or I might have to suck it up and use tape and solvent

I had a similar experience and had to tape it!
I originally grip them when it was cold in the shop and thought that may have had something to do with it, but even after them warming up they came loose again.
I taped them with a band of 2" grip tape around the top of the shaft and they are fine now.
this will still allow them to blow off easily if required.

I've blown grips on for a couple years now without any failure of twisting at all. I've read of another tip worth sharing that I've never tried, only because I haven't had to.
Cut a 1/4" strip of grip tape and run it along the length of the masking tape you're using now. Being only 1/4 wide, you should still be able to blow grips on and off without any problem at all, but this additional two sided tape prevents twisting along the entire length of the grip. You may have to experiment and see if 1 x 1/4" strip is enough, or maybe two strips (one on either side).
