    Question In Theory....

Could I take a shaft from a 3 iron and put it in a LW? What would the playability be like? Other than butt trimming to length, any other concerns???

Depending on the shaft, trimming it all from the butt might mean that the end of the grip is on a smaller section of the shaft than it would normally be. This can be solved with tape.

Of course it would be a lot more tip flexible that normal.

Not sure what that would feel like.

You'd be OK with a .370 shaft . All you'd have to do is tip trim it.

Agreed .. if parallel shaft just tip trim another 3"-3.5" to playing length .... no butt trim ... will play stiff flex but no grip size issue .... could feel like hitting rocks with a 2x2
if i could only putt !!

The head weight is going to make up for the flex issue.

    It's a taper tipped shaft.

I think Geoff is talking about taking a 3i shaft and not trimming the tip before he puts it into the wedge.

At least that is what I assumed for my original reply.

EDIT: Looks like Geoff answered as I was typing.

Well. Like JV said. You'd have to build up the grip. The swingweight will be different. The bending point and balance point will be different. you could probably hit it but I would not do it.

It will be for a LW, so it's mainly used for chipping and pitching, not too many full shots.

You'd have to cut off at least 3.5 inches of butt section. Grip down and see what it does to grip size.

I use 8i flex in my wedges. I have heard of some pros using 5i flex in the wedges. Hell, try it, you might like it . Not going to cost you much
