    Better Golf through Fitness

I have to tell you. I have been working with a golf personal trainer to work on my golf fitness and I have knocked 10 strokes off my game.

I used to shoot 90-95 and now I am 80-85 and I even shot a 78 once.....That was awesome...Still a ways to go but its getting there.

I feel so strong and stable.

What are you guys doing for golf fitness?

Have run 8 to 10 km, walked 1.5 hours plus on alternate days, skated, snow shoed, and now biked, every day save 2 since November.

And, alternate between a weight workout (ParaBody CM3 machine) and core stretching -"Core Performance - Golf."

Hit balls 3 times per week. Other than this - nothing.

    Golf training

Run outside (regardless of weather) 20K to 30K per week.
Weights 2 or 3 times per week (some golf specific - core exercises)
Hot room Yoga once per week (90 mins in a 40 degree hot room)
Swing a weighted club when bored....
Changed my diet to reduce non-healthy foods.

This is what I have been doing since Jan. and I've seen a great improvement in my cardio, and strength. Also have shed a few pounds and lost some inches off my chest, abdomen, and waist.

I would highly recommend the Yoga - find a good studio and try a beginners class, then move up to the Hot room classes. Great for the body, stretching etc, but also great for the mind - you have to focus for 90 mins - which is also helpful with your golf. I go to Rama Lotus on Gladstone in Ottawa - its fantastic.

I'm going to St.Andrews in a couple of weeks, where I plan to carry my clubs and play 2 rounds per day. I will be there for 6 days, so I knew I needed to work on getting into shape to be able to handle that. Hopefully I'm ready

WOW, hats off to all of you. That will benefit not only your golf game but your life as well.

I’m training on P90X since late October. Unbelievable program. I was already in shape since I have been training for over two years. It’s hard to maintain when you have two young kids at home but I do what I can to keep it going.
Strive for perfection, but never expect it!
