    Spring Melt Update

OK, so the pictures in last weeks Citizen of the two feet of snow we received last year around this time got me to thinking. Dangerous I know.

Since we had a near record amount of snowfall last year and this year has been average at best the if the snow melts as fast as last year we should be golfing in early April. I am assuming I have not jinxed us and that it will in fact be warm from now until tee time.

If I take a quick look out my office window at the Marshes I see a lot more brown than white right now so I am optimistic.
Not fat anymore. Need to get better at golf now!

The snow is melting real quick.... it has gone down about 24 inches in my yard in the past 7 days I am now seeing grass in places which is much better than this time last year!

Just went up to our course in Buckingham and there is a lot of snow up there compared to the valley.I still think we will play around the 27th of march either Presscot,or Calabogie,Perth.

Perhaps of more significance than the possibility of an early start would be the actual course conditions when we do. Remember, the first thaw came very early establishing a thick layer of non-porous ice under which the grass must breathe. A prolonged period of ice cover plays havoc with poa annua after roughly two months if the greens are not covered and to bent in a three to four month period. The more recent thaws have seen much of this ice cover melt, hopefully reducing the possibility of damage, and let's hope our favourite courses were able to put down sufficient fungicide in the late fall, before it snowed.

It will be interesting to see what conditions we wake up to, in three weeks or so.

That's great to hear guys--was getting a little worried. Rough day today 84 degrees--a cool breeze came in around 2:00 and cooled things down a little----SORRY---just had to.
    Does the 2nd hole-n-one come easier ?

I believe golf courses were exepted from the new regulations - thank God!

Also makes for an interesting new source of income for Golf Courses - Contraband Pesticide Fertilizer!!

Went to do a presentation at Prince Edward County Council in Picton yesterday, and the flags were in at the course as you come into town on Highway 49.

I was being real nice and wasn't going to mention how dry and hard the courses are where I am right now. I'll be back soon and hopefully all the white stuff will be gone and the courses will be starting to open. It's tough trying to find some shade on the course.

5 rounds in the last 10 days I am golfed out. Plus I'm sunburnt. Fired a jeykll & hyde 38-45 today, but I have a good chance for some skins as I had two birds on the front nine. All Canadian golfers should buy condos now in Phoenix, AZ. The prices are literally half of what they were last year. I am seriously considering one right now which was $300000 last year, and is now $149900.

Hopefully the snow will melt and some area courses will be open when (or if) I come back. Marguerita time!!!

What are you, a baby? If the number of rounds/days were reversed I'd cut you some slack, but only golfing every other day?

btw I believe that thread jacking to boast about holiday golf is a time-honoured tradition on the Ottawa golf forum.

I see the good folks at the weather network are predicting -20 tomorrow morning in Ottawa. No chance that little chestnut is affecting you Mr. Vincent?

    -20, what are you drinking?

The long range forecast is all above zero after today with Wed +10 and raining.

Just for fun, I've attached the 14 day trend...
