what are the drawbacks of a toe shafted putter?
what would be the drawback of a toe shafted putter? They have heel shafted so why not toe? Would you be more likely to have a closed face at impact?

I'd be led to believe because your hands will be ahead of most of the mass, you'll have no control over the head. So when you contact the ball the heel of the putter will swing like a hinged door and your putts will shoot off to the left nowhere near your target line and with not much power behind it. But I'm not a physicist, so I'm probably wrong.

i figured with a heel shafted putter your heel would be above the toe and impact as well

Toe-shafted putters have been made, and a quick search of the Net drew lots of hits for discussions about them. For an example of what such an anomaly might look like, have a peak at the one Axiss made: http://www.dmcfabrication.com/axiss/attention.html

Toe shafted
Either I am very old compared to the rest or have good memory.
They made these putters in the late 70's
They were called Backswerd putters and were the rage for a while.
Sometimes they show up on ebay.
This reminds me does anybody remeber the drivers with a head that looked like a cylinder (sp). made of a plastic material with an inverted bulge and roll face?
Anybody else remember odd clubs or other equipment

Being toe shafted wouldn't they promote an out to in swing path? If that's the case anyone with a inside/out swing path (probably 65% of us) would have problems fighting the tendency to come outside/in the target line.
Some people are like Slinkies... they're really good for nothing, ... but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs...

I don't know if your talking about the wacky driver that had a band around it to secure it to the shaft. It was sold, many years ago, on the basis that it would cure your slice. A friend of mine who played out of the Riverview course in Moncton had one. It was truly ugly, but he hit it surprisingly well. Here's a modern day version of it that will give you some sense of what I'm talking about: http://www.scottsdalegolf.co.uk/prod...4/power-ti-pod
You and I are both too old to remember this.
