The Technical Golf Swing
I have been to a few different golf discussions and I have always been interested in a talk about the swing and it goes sour when people say that the information is too technical. I like technical and I like biomechanics, psychology, physiology, geometry and science ... I'm wondering if anyone would be interested in a thread about what really happens in the swing. BC and Shadow have had posted great insights and there must be a few golf pros with some ideas, so I thought a Tech-Thread would be a place to find out what's really hapenning in the swing. Maybe we'll all learn a thing or two. Any takers? There are no bad questions or comments.
Canada had 2 of the best ball strikers in the world: Moe and George.
Moe's swing has been talked about Alot on how he had a unique swing plane, how he used hit legs, and how he hit it "dead straight. Everytime."

How about George Knudson.

I could "pause - play" the 2nd link at around 1:03 all day.
George has such a flat swing plane almost whipping it around his belt line. The golf machine would describe him as a Hitter - a player who drives the club hard through impact. By pulling the club hard left/up after impact, he is taking the club out of orbit by resisting Centrifugal force (moving out, like a swinger). Centripetal force is the opposite force, one that is created by pulling inward:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centripetal_force
It's not a kinetic force like gravity but a kinematic force which has to be present for objects tracking an certain trajectory - like a clubhead. George is ripping this clubhead through the air because his pivot is so far ahead of the grip - which is ahead of the clubhead. By the time this club starts to slow down.. the ball is gone.

Watching the video again you can really see how when GK turns his body though the shot, his chest is really driving on his left arm from the top. Cool to see. @ 0:58 you can see the top of his right shoulder above his arm.
His swing plane into the ball is much more horizontal and deeper than Geiberger - who was a great striker too. @ 1:24 you can see the shaft on a much flatter plane and is probably moving faster. This is something I don't hear explained very much. Popular instruction is to do all kinds of things that will magically create clubshaft lag, but there has to be a more athletic and natural action to this. AG looks like he could swing in a suit. GK looks like he would rip through that suit like the hulk.
