    I didn't see it?

    Player A and B are playing a par5.

Player A has pitched his 3rd shot from below the green to 3 feet. Player B is on the green in 2 shots and has 50 feet for eagle and decides to hit the putt before Player A has marked and made his way up to the green.

Player B's eagle putt hits Player A's ball at rest on the green. Player A, unaware of what happened, walks up to the green to find Player B's ball marked and the flag out. Player A holes the putt for 4, Player B does the same. Player B then informs Player A of the infraction after they finish the hole.

What is the ruling for both players?

Player A beats B to death with his driver on the way to the next tee.

The hole is halved with fours. In equity, A is not penalized because he was unaware of the original position of his ball.

What about Player B's putt that hit his FC's ball? That's two shots.

I think player B should either shut up and play golf OR, lose the hole for being a complete jackass and failing to inform his opponent that the two balls made contact prior to his putt.

It says the guy is on the green, putting for eagle. If he hits a ball with his putt, two stroke penalty.

I understand that part. What I'm wondering is how you arrive at that conclusion. Which rule are you referring to?

I wish I had my rule book with me today...

I asked this question because I saw it happen at a junior event in the US. Since player A did not see the ball collision, he was not obliged to replace his ball to the original spot.

Player B was to inform Player A of the infraction prior to hitting his next shot, however, this is not technically a violation. Player B, who should have waited for the ball to be marked AND the flag tended/removed, was assessed a penalty. I think it was only 1 stroke.

The debate was to charge Player A for not replacing his ball. Since Player A did not see his ball move, he cannot honestly move it to somewhere a FC advises.

... and give Player B back his ADD meds.

I just looked at the rulebook, and I can't find the rule. I've played my entire life believing this was the case. Am I wrong?

No, but I think you are just being challenged to cite the specific rule that shows that the penalty is two strokes. (Involved is a ball at rest and a ball in motion)

When you find the rule, tell us if it was matchplay or strokeplay. Does it make a difference?
